CALGARY: The Fast Demos Continue...

flySparro: "Hey Nicknolte let's go look at this hotel"

Nicknolte: "Okay cool let me drive by"

**Two weeks pass**

Nicknolte: "Okay I drove by, not sure which one you're talking about"

flySparro: "This one. Let's take a look this weekend?"

**A few days pass**

**Nicknolte and Flysparro drive up in their uber explormobile, only to find a pile of rubble**

flySparro: "lol.. ok"

See the Calgary NW Thriftlodge in its 2017 glory on Google Streetview

So we instead took a look at "Canadas Best Value Inn" just down the road - yeah they didn't know what an apostrophe was I guess. Or maybe they were skirting some trademark... haha.

Neat-o little motel, empty pool, got into a few rooms, didn't get into the main office though we would have liked to!

Took a look at an adjacent Boston Pizza which was locked up tight. We could have accessed more, if Nicknolte or I were versed in / equipped for lock picking.

We also did a few drive-bys and walk-arounds of known locations, but we're currently waiting for some things to move, some things to open up, etc.

We had our first infil of 2018 (yay!) but it wasn't a groundbreaking night.

Here are a couple quick iPhone pics from Canadas Best:

1. Nicknolte checks a window. Smells like McDonalds.

2. Flysparro does a traditional slav squat in Canadas Best pool.

3. Pool chems, ice machine, life preserver.

4. Canadas Best, night. iPhone X. The light in the lower left is the ice room.

Nicknolte will have more images to add, but this was our weekend! Lookin' at you, YEG peeps. ;)

Thanks for the good night Nicknolte! This city will be our bitch soon enough.

They don't last long do they?!? You get marks for effort though and you made it into something!!! You know they sell lock picking practice kits on Amazon? My friend told me. ;)

I did some scouting last weekend and we have a list of potentials for up here. I think thergerm has been out looking too. We have one bigger location that would be new but was issued a demo permit about 5-6 weeks ago so no idea how long it'll last.

I even have started mapping my travels for within about an hour around the city limits. I found one place last Sunday towards Camrose but it was in a small hamlet and when I opened my car door it seemed like 100 dogs started barking. LOL

Stay tuned....

Glad to see you gents are keeping busy out there! Looks like you guys had a fine time.

Bonus points for the Slav squat.

Hahaha yessss.

I think I'm gonna start taking the real camera with me where I go... maybe a JOBY or something too, I dunno. Not that there was much spectacular about Canadas Best, but eh, would be good to have a good photo of the parking lot at night.

I bet that place will be half way to rubble by February.

There's LOTS of development in Calgary planned for our third train line, let me break it down sorta:

RED line goes NW to S Central.
BLUE line goes NE to SW.

If you divide the city like a six-piece pizza, that means N Central and SE have no train. That's where the Green Line comes in. See the map here.

So we'll be keeping a close eye on the proposed locations for new LRT stations this year. That's why The Shamrock got razed. There will be lots of acquisitions on behalf of the city, demolishing buildings until construction begins in 2020.

So I guess that means we should expect acquisitions etc over the next 2.5yrs. Which is annoying because a place could go from inhabited to demo'd in a month. We'll have to keep a close eye on all of these.

EDIT: This shows it well. Why does the SW portion not really go SW you ask? It's a really big reserve belonging to the Tsuu T'ina natives so it hasn't been developed like most other directions.

The bigger prize in the area remains inaccessible, but at least the hotel had a sweet room full of microwaves

All buildings previously pictured in this thread are now rubble.

BUT.

Nicknolte and I headed out last night to about six or seven locations, successfully infiltrating two of them! Both were unexpected, and one *might* have even left the front door open. We didn't actually try it until we were walking OUT of said front door from the inside... haha

I give you, the fruits of our labour.

Super surprising that the big one was open. Hopefully y'all will have a chance to see it if we do a 403 meetup.

Also, Fly is a skinny mofo

It's funny, the building mechanical equipment looks like its had some upgrades somewhat recently. I wonder why they would abandon it and rip so much out.

Looks like a fruitful run gentlemen! Congrats!

I think urbex is probably the one "sport" where being built like a razor blade is an asset.

Thanks homie! Hahaha Nicknolte and I fit through the same space, so I maintain that we're both in impeccable shape.

Now I must know, what's the narrowest thing you've squeezed through as a POE? I'm not skinny, but I've gone through some pretty small spaces, just ask Rusty Canadian.

One day I got a good camera.

Some do, yeah!!

I don’t really know why. Even in a somewhat recession, things still go from active, to locked, to rubble very quickly.

I think this door was the sketchiest.

Industrial garage door, the ground under it on an angle. One end had 6” clearance, the other end of the door (maybe 10’ wide) was touching the ground.

Then, inside the door about 6”, there was a plywood rise of about 3” to the shop floor level. So you had to go under, in, and then sorta come up in order to get into the shop. Bend your shoulders like a cashew.

Sounds about on par with something I did not too long ago to get into a house: Only open window was just above my height but could be reached by stepping on a pipe just a foot up. Only problem, the window only opened about a foot or so. Pretty much, I'm squirming my way through this dusty paint-chipped window while Rusty Canadian is on the ground pushing my feet because I have no other traction. And of course being a window, I kinda tumbled onto the floor when I finally got everything through. Fun times.

Hahaha. Did you find a different way out or nah?

Nicknolte and I were lucky, we walked right out the front door of both of these when we were done.

Surprise, surprise. It looks like the place we hit up might be actively patrolled by security. A couple more pics for scale:

Boss pics, homie! Looks weird in there with the lights on. Harder to hide, no doubt.

No photos of the suspected security patrol? lol
