Vancouver filmmaker captures historical, 'emotional character' of abandoned Point Grey mansions According to this, we're pretty much all worthy of a feature on The National Post! Okay to be fair, these lots sit empty as the rich price the majority out of Vancouver as a whole. Some of the 'most expensive properties in North America' as the National Post puts it, sit vacant for years, while young students ride transit for over an hour a day just to get to UBC because they can't afford to live close. Hell, I'm surprised most of that university's population can afford to go there at all. A family member of mine lives in a building in Van that's got a crack right through the middle of it - meanwhile the fishing store next door gets levelled and turned into condos! Woo. Gentrification. Vancouver is in a deep spiral, and this high-class urbexer is fumbling around in a dense fog of art, cinema and economic unrest. I'm not sure what I intend for you to get out of my rant here, but then again, I don't think Mr. Fieldwalker has any more of an idea, either.

Interesting article. First, I think we need to plan a road trip to Van and do a meet up! lol I'm right there with you on the housing costs and it's mind blowing to read in that article how properties are going for a million over asking price. I always had a dream of living and working in Vancouver but who can afford it?! The other thing I found interesting is he uses the Coastal Salish people and territory as his argument against trespassing? C'mon guy! But still....summer road trip?? ;)

I do like the way he films. Still shots, well framed, no music or narration, just ambient noise. I'd like to see more of that.
