A nice way to start the new year with a ride through the countryside. DigiLily and I went to scout a few other locations, and was able to check this little place out. It seems to have closed in the mid nineties, but had plans for assisted living shortly after. There was rumors of high cancer rates in the county that never seemed to be answered, but did show up in statistics from the government health report. 1.

Nice shots, those medical/nursing home places creep me the hell out. Think: Walking Dead or something. I'm digging #21 with the moss starting to take over that chair, and #22, uh, yeah that's pretty strange. Thanks for sharing!
This may be the end of the post, but you ain't seen the end of me!
#16 is my favorite of the set they're all good. Doesn't look like the place is withstanding the elements very well.

Thank you! The bathtub was neat because that day was in the 20s, and it was a block of green ice. Not something that we see in the SouthEast often.

Thanks! Yes, nature has been working hard on that upper floor, and there was some rough areas elsewhere too.

Was this a records office or a library? I would love to read old medical charts 11.
How did this smell after all those years? After a long enough time I imagine it doesn't smell like anything.... 16.
this is my FAV - you all know I don't know JACK about photography, but I just like this one. It has a real ....dunno.....is "texture" the right word? 18.
again, not sure of the right words, but the shadow like effect on the chair against the window to the outside just makes me think of an old person sitting alone....forgotten.....my future.....scary
22.
I'd about kill for a sample of that water to test in the lab
23. awe - that dolly looks like my childhood "wooby" / doll. I still have her too....she's straight scary 24.
ELMO! HA

*You always find the COOLEST places. As I am stuck in the lab 24/7 lately, I appreciate the vicarious explores! Great pictures as always. Thanks for sharing them. ***side note - so I've been told when I post I somehow make it viewable only to FMs. I didn't see any box I checked for that option here, so please tell me when you see me doing this until my dumb a$$ figures out what I'm doing wrong***

At the bottom of the New Thread post window, there should be a checkbox that says "Make this thread Publically Viewable". Check it to make it publicly viewable. Be careful with the info you make available in a public thread!

I appreciate the kind words. We were scouting and had this place in mind while in the area, and I'm glad it turned out the way it did. 5- The room looked like an office or library, and the books we saw were mainly manuals etc. 11- It was open enough not to notice. Plus frozen noses change things, lol. 16- HDR. High Dynamic Range, which brings the detail into the shadow and highlight areas. I almost left it out because the way it processed, but I'm glad I didn't because that is the better of the trip. 22- It is tough to tell but the tub was a block of ice that day.

That sounds good. It seems that by default the new thread is private. I have found that there is a link to change private and public on the threads I created at the very bottom of the page if I have already posted it.

Thanks! I'm truly hoping to make it out at least once in the winter. I really prefer the cold for exploring. I'll be sure to look for those options when I create my next post

I am a huge fan of long hallways and dark tunnels. That said, I think 16 may be one of my favorite pictures ever. I love how so many of these photos use the existing lines to direct the eye around the image and encourage us to disrobe. Also, toy debris is its own special brand of unsettling! I think I have that same skull in a Halloween decorations bin, though!

#22 is hands down my favorite, "Get Naked" beside a ghastly bathtub filled with debris and discolored water. Beautiful shots!
I don't dwell on the past, I explore it.
You got some good shots despite some heavy looking vandalism. This place wouldn't happen to be... towards the west would it? Is the town missing it's 'mount' perhaps

Many thanks for the compliments! I am still learning, but now it's tough to shoot without the tripod...

I appreciate that! It happened to be frozen that day as well which I think added some to it.

It was tough to tell if it was a mix of partial demo and low level vandals, but time was not kind to the lower floor. I think you're headed in the right direction, and I don't think it was ever mounted...
