Rookie Urbex expirences

I keep seeing post (old ones) about people who gripe about not getting fm status, but yet to see any of their experience. So I'll start this, if it needs to be moved or im doing it wrong, please give feed back

1. This was a few years back, me and my cousin were walking around our neighborhood and ran across a drain tunnel that we never had the sack to check out. One day we found out why. We went and got flashlights and a couple bottles of water. Walked about a mile into the tunnel and a few feet up i noticed something white and round, my first thought was its a halloween deco or something like that, and I was dead wrong. We walk up to it and the closer we get i see eye sockets and still think its fake, walked up to it...not fake. Human skull was sitting there with no other bones, blood, or anything that bad, but it was the last time i went in that tunnel until about a month ago. more graffiti and some VERY mad cotton mouths.

2. If its the house i think it is then its on the db, walking around my neighborhood again we found an abandoned house that had been there well before my subdivision was built. It was absolutely perfect, no peeling wall paper or anything. I was a teenager and my dumbass showed all my friends so we could have a place to smoke. yes i was dumb, lecture me of it if you must. Every time i went back afterward it was progressively worse. At one point the house that had been condemned started to come down on us, we all made it out and i quit hanging out with them as they had ruined my little hang out. I only got to go maybe 5 times

I included the last part of the second story for this point. I get why you have to be a full member to see the better spots. People like my old group of friends just wanna fuck everything up and leave. not cool. trying to work on my content and scouting a couple of places now, but im working 80+ hrs a week so time is limited

My fm was denied for a reasonable factor: I haven't uploaded photos. I have no reason to complain. My camera is being used by my dad right now for his own project. But as soon as I get my camera Im getting some photos.

As for my experience... When I was younger I did my first real explore, which I described in the welcome new members. One of the 4 houses we went in to, we had to break the window frame. Yeah I was 12 so I didn't know better, but now I cringe knowing that I broke so many rules that day.

Also 2 years ago I went to the second floor of an extremely moldy and heavily weathered so I could have been impaled if I fell through. The stairs had half collapsed already, but me being real stupid climbed them to the second floor.

If there is something I want to do then Ill do it and if there is something I don't want to do than I wont do it. That's the Dandy way baby.

As someone who is still fairly new to the site also and just got my FM, I'll share some feedback I got. I spent some time on the site, reading and interacting as best as I could. It makes a difference to participate where you can. I'm also not a photographer, although learning as I go, but all my pics that I've shared are either from my phone or my go pro. There are some VERY talented members here that I've learned a lot from but you can still share even if you don't have a camera etc.

It's really all about the experience. This is a place to find like minded people who share in the passion of exploring and your FM will come but at the end of the day, for me, it's about getting out there and living life.

P.S. finding a skull??? Did you have to report it?

I also had to google cotton mouth LOL

To me that means the morning after a hard night of drinking! Clearly no real scary snakes where I live. ;)

I think if everyone new would just spend a few minutes reading the FAQ about earning Full Membership it would save a few hours worth of whining.

Your membership will come in time. I understand that grind though. Its hard to do the things that you want when you work so much. You just have to manage your time better.

It took me about 6 months before I got my full membership. During that time I took a break from exploring after a bad experience at a location. I can tell you as a person who averages 50-60 hours a week, it's all about timing. I'm still waiting to go out on another explore but it gets very cold and money can be a bit tight sometimes.

It'll all come to you one day

You should really reconsider why you explore. Just being granted FM status does not guarantee you can or will explore better locations.

Try finding one on your own. Then post your photos and tell them the story.

Action talks. b.s. walks.. if working 80+ hrs a week is holding you back lack of Full Membership is not your problem

Exactly. I had the same mentality when I first started that a full membership would grant me the ability to see more places in my location. In reality, i have seen or heard of all the locations in my area on the db already.

This, I knew that I wasn't going to get it. But hey, why not try anyway? Ya know.

This is whats held me back from posting pictures. I was just concerned that people wouldn't consider them "real" photos. I've just been waiting for my dad to give back my camera. I used to do photography but now that I go with my friends more often than not, I don't think its safe for a camera when we scare each other all the time lol.

I hear ya. I hesitated too. I usually just post in my regional section vs the photography section. Seems like a better fit for my pics.

I totally thought he was referring to stoners in the tunnel! lolol

I get a huge kick out of the research and finding of new locations as much as I do the exploration of them. I also try to get in to the history of a location before I go check it out if I can.
