An "Abandoned" Mansion

The story goes like this, the CEO of a now long gone company wanted to make a mansion as large as Bill Gate's home (50,000 square feet). Ground was broke on this project... over 20 years ago. This makes a lot of people believe that it's abandoned, but it is actually still undergoing construction. Annual progress reports (submitted every 6 months) show things such as "We've added a little more roofing to the roof." So they haven't stopped construction, they've just barely done enough to keep the project going. The CEO has also been a nasty neighbor, building a rock wall and back fill in the nearby river without permits and the sorts. I was able to get through most of the mansion until heading towards the very last room we heard some very close footsteps, presumably from the onsite security and decided to high tail it out.

This was the best clear shot I could get without risking being spotted in the open by the worker living on-site

This was some of the car showcase room, the one picture I snagged of the full thing is super blurry

This was a large portion of the basement, with the elevator shaft slightly visible on the right

This was the rest of the basement, mostly just junk at this point

This is the backside of the mansion

This is the main living room and entrance

This was one of the two giant window (fixtures?) looking out into the front yard from the living room

These are two pictures of the basketball court (My phone lense wasn't wide enough to get it in one)

This was presumably where the indoor pool was going to be

This is the walkway on the top floor, I wasn't able to cross it because at that point the on site worker was walking around and we had to get out

I have so many more pictures, but I figured me going through 9 bedrooms and a bunch of bathrooms that aren't distinguishable wouldn't be all that interesting. I plan on going back to check out the rest of the top level, but that probably wont be for a while.

Edit: Switched picture hosting service

Wow, 20 years. Amazed it looks as good as it does, appears to be nice workmanship. Wonder how long it will take to finish and if he'll ever be able to live there.

He said at the start of construction that he wasn't even sure if he was ever going to move in there, he just wanted it to say he had it I guess

I don't even know if Mr. Wattles even owns this anymore. I used to manage one of his privately owned stores, not the nicest guy. Wonder why all the work, are they salvaging it or something?

The city says he's still the one paying the taxes. My guess is that it's an ego thing, it always seemed to be.

Probably is. Him and his brother Derrick always were pretty egocentric.

Crazy story. Also crazy someone is willing to blow so much money to start the project and then never finish it. You'd think if the owner was never going to move in he'd at least let you have a look around
