I've been lurking on here since 2012, and exploring since about 2005, but never posted. I thank you all for the joy you've shared with me through your posts and pictures and wanted to try and return the favor. The pics are old (2008) and not great but these are from the abandoned mill known as The Bleachery in Rock Hill, SC near Winthrop University before the huge fire in 2010 with another member on here SanityAna (http://www.uer.ca/...d=1&posterid=27148) 1.

Some cool old school industrial controls like #42
Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in. | |
Those are some great pics, I really dig the high contrast black & white stuff.

There are (were?) some gorgeous and GIANT machines in there.

It's funny, I live in downtown Charlotte and yet I never head back to Rock Hill much. Is the place still standing after that massive fire a few years back?

I had lived in Lake Wylie& Clover and took a class at York Tech so I used to spend a lot of time in Rock Hill but moved to Plaza Midwood 8 or 9 ago before buying a place closer to the airport last year. I've been to Rock Hill maybe once or twice in the last 4 or 5 years and not near enough to see the mill. As far as the mill goes, I think parts of it are relatively undamaged but the arsonists started multiple fires throughout the place and I think the Fire Department has done a few controlled/training burns there. Last I heard the security had been really beefed up, but that was soon after the fire.

Great photos. Most of the Bleachery has been torn down now and is prepped for development. The Lowenstein building (along E. White Street) is slated to reopen as an office building and the back portion of the Bleachery will be a sports complex. The remaining parts of the facility are mostly gone, however the wastewater treatment plant and powerhouse remain - I'm told those sites will be renovated/redeveloped in the near future as well.
