Today I ended up way off the beaten path and found a few abandoned buildings, this church being the highlight. I initially stopped just to take pics of the outside but found a POE that only involved a little bit of climbing to get in. This place has a really creepy feeling inside. It could be that it was windy and there were all kinds of noises and being solo always heightens the senses.
I counted at least 6 empty houses/ farm yards on this road alone. It would be tough to access a lot of them with the snow because a lot of them were a ways off the main road but lots of potential for the drive. P.S. You guys probably all know this location too ;)

Woah cool! Looks like the really old Ukranian Catholic church my Grandpa attended. Awesome (In future consider using the quick gallery creator and letting it resize large images - opening them in huge pop-ups is cumbersome).

Wow i can't believe this place is still standing. I went in it about 4 years ago! There are a ton of abandoned farm houses out there, one of the best things about alberta haha.

I usually do that but couldn't get it to work last night. I'll see if it works this morning. I totally hear ya. I hate those galleries.

I was surprised at all the abandoned places and not all of them looked like the super old, half falling over farm steads either. You pretty much just have to drive and look for patches of trees in the middle of the fields and boom, there's another one. The problem is most are about 500 m from the road and the snow is deep, which means you're parking on the road. Definitely somewhere for the spring though. You could spend a lot of time out in the boonies! lol

Very cool find! Usually when I go backroads-ing I just find slumped over farm houses & stock yards.

It's not too much further out than where we were the last time. Within about an 8 km stretch there were a lot of empty houses too. We may have to add it to the list. I think it'd be super creepy at night lol

If you feel like playing tour guide this time I'd be down to check it out.

Thanks! It really is. I had no idea but the area I live in is surrounded with these rural empty churches. I found another one today that I'll post pics of in the near future. It's similar to this one but in better condition (and I climbed the bell tower lol)
