Just wondering how many active members are around from the Mid-Michigan area, and if so, how do you go about finding your locations?

If you consider Flint mid-michigan, take a drive around blighted areas.

Yeah I've read these, the only problem with Mid-Michigan area is all the cities in the surrounding areas are generally small. I've found a good few locations from google maps and just driving around, also asking around is an okay way. The cities around us do a pretty good job at cleaning up messes.

Ah yes, I've heard Kalamazoo is a hotspot, I'd like to take a trip down there sometime to check out some places. It's about a 5-6 hour drive, so it's not necessarily convenient, my plans are to take a week or so out of the summer to go down near detroit and ann arbor.

I added the asking cause that is how I was a few weeks back and when I read it I felt stupid. Glad nobody else is making that mistake.

Tons of people make that mistake. Just go through that entire thread, and you'll see people making the mistake and then getting indignant about it.

Note also that it's fine to ask who's around your region and for scouting advice.

I'm mostly in to abandoned houses but I also like to do infiltration in like schools, offices and churches. And if there is an abandoned building or crane I check them out

Until recently I was only doing infiltration (for about 3 years) because I didn't have the time to look for houses. Now that my friend can drive we would spend all day driving this summer. My first place were these 4 houses all next to each other that I explored back when I was 12 so like 4 years ago. When did you start?

I was doing very basic abandoned exploring and a bit of rooftopping for about two years, since I'm ony 17 now I got into it when I was about 15. Over the past year I've really started to pick it up and have been doing a lot more houses and rooftops, I never actively searched for spots up until the beginning of 2017.

I'm from Cadillac originally.

There is a lot out there, especially in the southern counties, where some old homesteads pre-date the civil war. Read up on regional history, dig up old maps, cross-reference with satellite imagery, and take a different route when you're driving places.

I'm around Mid-Michigan a decent amount for school, but school is usually so involved I can't get out much unless I'm on a big break. It's an interesting dynamic because we have so much right on our front door, arguably one of the best treasure troves in the North East thanks to GR, Detroit, Kzoo etc. but it's just far enough that the drives are inconvenient and the cities are unfamiliar (even though unfamiliarity is kind of what we do, in a place like Detroit it can be a bit intimidating)

Anyway, do you get out much? It might be fun to meet up and see some new sites

I am in the Lansing area. Moved here recently from a different state. My crappy health insurance likes to make sure I drive 2+ hours away for anything, so I've seen a bit of Detroit lately. There's lots of abandoned stuff there. I checked out the old Packard plant a few weeks ago, (be warned if you go there tho, they do have a security guy that drives around.)
