I got to explore three schools I attended before they were torn down. Elementary, middle then my high school. Odd that they’re all gone now.

That is strange. It's like they're trying to erase your existence.

My elementary and junior high school are currently being closed.

When I was a kid we went to an old farm worker's house my Mum had lived in when she was young. The place was amazing. There were plants coming up through the floorboards, it was partially collapsed and parts of it had been cannibalized for the new farmhouse elsewhere on the property. I could just picture my grandparents, Mum and my aunties sitting around the table in the little kitchen. The best part was we found the key still in the back door, which my Mum took as a keepsake.

There's a thread somewhere, but there's a neighbourhood where a bunch of my friends lived, in three separate apartments. One of them we spent American Thanksgiving and Christmas together often, and recorded a music video for their punk band.

After the area was abandoned, I returned and found they had left behind a zine I had written. It is weird finding your own work abandoned.

I am one of about three white people in this video, and the only one wearing glasses.

Way more pictures of the video shoot here. Absolutely every building pictured is now demolished, except the white highrises in the distance. I just marked it demolished in the LDB, although that entry doesn't give it justice just how many adventures we had there. And in my case, both before and after abandonment.

I hadn't been here before abandonment, but one of the explorers in my group used to live at this place when she studied in university here. I got her into exploring and then we figured out her former home was near an urban renewal zone, so we returned and found it in this condition. This picture shows her with her hand on the door of her former residence, with a sign saying "empty house."

The LDB entry shows what's inside, and disappointingly she didn't leave anything sexy behind.

I love this thread! I thought I didn't have anything to add to it until I remembered one of my very first explorations...

It was a house on the Southwest side of Chicago, that had belonged to one of my sisters best friend, and was neighboring a friend of mine. As a child I ran through the halls playing games or coming to pick up my sister for dinner, it was down the block. That was until the family moved away to Oregon. The house is a lot nicer than the others around it, with 3 occupiable floors and an attic. It had several large bedrooms and multiple bathrooms, along with a massive master bathroom. Due to this, it was put on the market at a very steep price. There were no biters. The family was fairly well off so they just left regardless. Following this, the house went abandoned.

Proceeding this all I had explored was a burned down farm next to my dads, but this is what really started my interest in the hobby.

I gathered my friend s and we set off to the house, easily finding an open back window and entering. Most furnishings were gone besides a couch in the basement, but all utilities were running. It was odd seeing the rooms that were crowded with life so empty dull. Overall, it was a decent explore, great introduction in my opinion. We visited the house often, even spending the night in it once.

That was years ago, today the house is still unoccupied, but has been placed back on the market. The owners are trying to sell it again and I believe it is sealed, maybe one day, if I can I'll get back in and make a post. The house was one of the big reasons for my developed interest in urbex, it made me start watching youtube explorers like the proper people. We even used the house as an intro to urbex for our friends. Years later, it served as a motivator for us to hit Chicago's famous Silos, which is where our story kicked off and truly began. I'll forever be thankful for the experiences the house gave, both in use and not. Thanks for reading.

I'm here for a good time not a long time.

I explored an abandoned amusement park I used to go to when I was a kid. Also explored an abandoned psych hospital that I do believe a family member used to work at (I'd confirm with her, but she's kinda dead).

OPEX in Buffalo; was that 2007?

Correct. You are old. ;)

That was a great meet up though. I mean...I wasn't there...because I'm not old. D:

Sadly it was before my picture taking days, but my old middle school was abandoned for about 8 years before they demolished it. It served as the high school at one point and it was huge. The first building was built in 1917 and the other was in 1920. When I went in it was crazy almost like an apocalyptic dream I would've had about the place as a kid. I would do anything to be able to be back there with a camera.

I went to Six Flags every other weekend for an entire summer the year before Katrina. My parents and I had season passes that summer, and so we went and really ran the place for what it was worth. I remember the fabric over hangs that lined the main thoroughfare of the park, the vibrant colors and radical polygons. I remember the voices of other park goers and I can sure as hell remember the heat, even as a lad. I can see what the park looked like before, outlined by it's current form in front of my very eyes. Like a holographic image. Walking through that places just does it for me. It's the epitome of my urbex experience for more reasons than face value. It's a part of the world that stood still while the rest of the world around it moved on.

Building, no...but my brothers and I explored an abandoned theme park in northern Arkansas back in 2012 that our parents used to take us to when we were kids. I think we'd get the tickets from school, prizes from the MS Read-a-thon or something. Even in the mid to late 80s the park was limping along, and closed in 93...it was a pretty cool place, short to no lines (an obvious clue that kids tend to overlook), and it was cheaper and less overwhelming than Worlds and Oceans of Fun, the two big parks in KC.
Seeing it about 20 years after it closed was (enter standard poignant adjectives) interesting and brought back a lot of great memories.
