I do! SOPHIE was a great introduction to PC Music and adjacent stuff. she's super cool. name is entirely unrelated to her though; honestly...

...but i'm glad im not the only one in the community with this particular intersection of attributes.

I like SOPHIE too! My friend is a big fan of hers and they are more into her music than I am.
Anyways to stop diverting from the topic of the thread; I’m a girl too. I don’t identify as lgbtq, but from my perspective I feel like members of the lgbtq community are pretty badass when it comes to counter culture or underground movements.

I’d be excited to see what a connected group of lgbtq or specifically trans explorers could do.

It's funny to revisit this thread. My 14yr daughter has discovered UE and now begs me to take her to locations and "teach her the ways".

Honestly, that's really sweet. Sounds like some family bonding time to me!

From my perspective, there’s a lot more female models out there then there are female explorers.

If a male explorer hangs around too many models, it is a huge red flag for me.

I think that's the result of Instagram. It doesn't seem particularly healthy.

Women are still a minority in exploring. I just had a meetup yesterday and out of 14 people, only three were female. One of them yelled at a few of the male explorers during a dinner after for telling particularly disgusting dead baby jokes and it led to a lot of discussion later about making women feel more welcome and safer in UE communities.

I mean, in my experience a lot of women are concerned about walking to their car from their workplace.

These concerns are only amplified in an abandoned building where homeless men, thugs, gangsters and murderers could be.

Another female explorer here! So yes female explorers are out there

I will explore solo also but will admit it is a bit harder and more risk. I just let a friend know where and call them after to let them know I’m good.

It is really good to see all these posts and know that other women explore all over!

Hey man, we're out here!

I go out alone a lot, but even if there's people in the building I try not to let them know I'm there. Maybe not the best move, but I've had a couple run-ins with not exceptionally friendly people in some secluded spots while I was alone.

The risk is a bit high exploring alone being a woman, especially when carrying a weapon (which in reality would only be used in self-defense) when you're trespassing isn't the best idea so I don't do it unless really necessary, so trying to not be spotted is usually my defense. (Nothing in laws that says you can't carry some bear spray though! NY is a little weird when it comes to pepper spray)

Maybe the other lady explorers are just hiding from you ;)

I love seeing that there are other women out here and totally agree with a lot of points made above.

I feel like us women need to be vigilant in our daily activities alone, so urbex adds another fun dimension to this. I'm also a mom and have gotten looks/ judgement when I've mentioned to others that this is my hobby. Some believe I'm being irresponsible as a mother (though this judgement may apply to urbex dads too?) I'm not too risky of an explorer and exercise a lot of caution once I'm inside.

Would love to connect with other women in Mass so I'm not always alone when exploring!

Just a thought, but in some ways, females could be better at exploring than males in that they can pass without arising the same suspicions that say a male.

It's a fact that female private investigators are much better at blending into surroundings and conducting surveillance that most males.

I say stuff a safety vest, safety glasses, fake ID badge, small clipboard, and a ball cap into your bag or purse and explore.

This doesn't work as well when the cop, desk agent, door guard, or cellphone counterterrorist is also a woman.

Buddy of mine used to take his wife all the time. She didn't like going without him because she's pretty small and really cute, but she's was insano in mine exploring.

I'd consider myself a fairly small and relatively innocent-looking female. IMO the risk in "more likely to get raped or murdered" is worth the reward in being able to climb/squeeze through more precarious places, and getting the benefit of the doubt from a majority of security folks.

That being said I always carry a (legally allowable) knife on me and stay brushed up on some basic fighting skills. And I still take along a buddy at times, especially when I anticipate spending most of the time taking photos. The viewfinder-tunnel-vision is real, even when there's not a proper tunnel in sight ;)

Getting really good at sprinting for a mile straight and/or vaulting fences will serve you much better, regardless of your size and gender.

Absolutely true. It's all too easy to lose sense of your surroundings, proprioception and sense of passing time when shooting.

Theres plenty of female explorers.

I know some that dont put that theyre female on their profiles, so dont always believe what you see on the internet.

Ah, the internet, where the women are men, the men are children and the children are FBI agents.
