Untouched mill - Canada (photo heavy)

I have to thank a fellow explorer for telling me about this place, it was my first out of province explore, and wow it was worth it!

This 100 year old facility sits on 6 hectares has three large 6 story buildings that reeked of grain (which actually smells a lot better than most abandonment), As soon I got inside I could immediately feel the history. Much to my surprise it had zero vandalism, crazy considering its location, there wasn’t even much natural decay nor water damage. Now I’ve explored grain elevators before, and I was expecting this place to be very similar. I was wrong; this place was much more advanced than a standard elevator and on a much larger scale.

Unfortunately I only had a few hours to explore this huge location, and things felt rushed, I’d love to go again, I did manage to do explore it all though.
I would love to include a bunch more exterior photos of this building, but I don’t want see this place vandalized.

I did manage to get a bunch of good photos.
Explored on a beautiful June day, 2017.
Sadly it was a bit too dark inside for photospheres.

Enjoy!

1.

Rail lines into the property.

2.

The wall on the left was the only real sign of vandalism I seen that day.

3.

Administration office and main entrance.

4.

Main floor.

5.

Forklifts.

6.

The cavernous storage and shipping warehouse.

7.

Weigh scale.

8.

So strange to see a robotic arm in a building like this. Definitely the first one I’ve seen.

9.

Making my way up the levels of the building.

10.

Wooden slide.

11.

Looking outside from a balcony.

12.

There was beautiful hardwood flooring on most of the levels.

13.

7.5 years.

14.

Employee locker room.

15.

Employee shitters.

16.

The level above where photo 9 was taken.

17.

Small control room.

18.

Super cool sewing machine.

25.

Random piece of equipment.

26.

Air filter.

27.

Kitchen/laboratory.

28.

Top floor.

29.

Top floor.

30.

Interesting maze of piping used to send ingredients where they need to be throughout the mill. These photos are from the other building to the south.

31.

More piping

32.
This floor had the craziest maze of piping!

33.

Processing equipment.

34.

Roof access up the stairs, to much traffic outside to go out there however.

35.

More processing equipment.

36.

These look like cast iron grain grinders.

40.

What looks like an employee lunch room.

41.

Small office.

42.

Lights out.

43.

Back down to the main floor, everything is belt driven.

44.

Giant drive system that turns 2 shafts.

45.

Cast iron wheels.

46.

Shaft one of two that powers all the bets for the grinders.

47.

Electrical room.

48.

And here was the most interesting thing I seen that day, the source of power that turns those 2 shafts.

49.

Huge electric turbine.

50.

51.

Storage room.

52.

Nest inside the wood shop.

53.

Lathe.

54.

Boiler room.

55.

Spare parts room, full of goodies!

56.

Parts room.

57.

Where trucks are filled up.

A great but risky explore! With some great highlights!

Awesome! Great job, the piping in 32 is such a bizarre design, I've never seen anything like that. With so much pristine hardware still on site there must have been a guard making the rounds?

The wood floors throughout are incredible, pushing a 100 years and the character they have is amazing. Nice find

FoMoCo, do you by any chance know if this place is in the DB, even if only for full members?

I don't care what it takes I need to see this place!

One of the best grain/flour mills I think I have ever seen, looking at some of the machinery I'm almost certain it's a flour mill as I have seen similar over here.

I don't have a clue, I'm not a full member. I'd assume that it's not because of how recently it closed.

Can confirm this place is NOT in the UE DB.

It's protected by a moderately large protection company, but I think it's the "regular visit" type rather than the "on-duty" type. This site has been empty for a number of years now (which makes its condition even crazier).

With it in this condition I am assuming it is mothballed with the intention to restart it when economic conditions allow.

An excellent find
#48 is a large 3 phase electric motor.

If you revisited it (and you definitely should) consider putting more effort into squaring off shots and composition.
It was this type failure that cost me a lot of one of a kind keepers early on

Well they put it up for sale but would not sell to their competitors.

I wonder if they would sell it to a local co-op then? Dumb policy agreed. Its usually not cheap to keep something not running that clean.
