Located behind a mound that is on one end of a soccer field in Toronto's west end is Keelesdale storm drain, also known as the Fortress of Solitude. My trip to this drain occurred some years ago in 2013. Keelesdale drain is unique because of how it's storage tank is located right as you enter the drain. It must be known as the Fortress of Solitude because of the multiple pillars that hold up the ground above. In the first photo the storage tank is located directly behind the concrete wall you see on the right hand side of the photo... 1.

Cool drain! Any thoughts on why they chose to place the tank so close to the outfall in this instance?

cool shots...this is actually one of my favorite drains in the GTA. After a few years I finally went back with Inventor77 to re-shoot the tanks a couple of months ago. The tank is designed to prevent an overflow of raw sewage from an active sanitary sewer a km or two upstream of the tank, in the event of a major storm. I've never personally seen it full, but it definitely happens. Would be interesting to know the frequency with which it actually overflows into the creek. I've been meaning to make a dedicated post of photos from my own recent trip, but here are a few teasers
Full set on www.tohellandback.net or maybe I'll get around to making an actual post one of these days

LOL,nope. Actually the two people in the photo, where those lights are seen, were actually both sinking into the shit or whatever poo like substance was in the tank, much like quicksand.
