If you've ever driven along highway 86 in Colorado, you know that it's a pretty scenic drive. The area surrounding it, dappled with dying towns and old settlements, is a pretty big eye-opener as to how much there is in Colorado's Eastern Plains in the way of UrbEx. Last week I decided to make this drive myself, for the sake of Exploration. About midway in the route, I got off the highway and ended up in a small community, with nothing to offer for most people. For me, however, there was a small grain elevator that provided some great photos and a good time. Feedback/criticism on any my photos would be greatly appreciated. 1.

Went back here over the weekend to take some more photos and see the site a bit more. There are a couple of warehouses that were mostly empty, but still made for a good time. I was forced to leave about an hour earlier than I had planned when a man in a pickup truck drove up, and kindly informed us that somebody else in town had called the sheriff (what a lad, right?). I'm uploading two different versions of a photo I took of a crate, I couldn't decide which one I liked more.

You got some awesome pictures. I love the second to last one (of the box) and the one of the poster. Was there anybody living or working near by or was the grain silo and the surrounding area pretty empty?

Thanks! The box was my definitely my favorite photo I've taken in a long time. The grain elevator itself, and the surrounding offices/warehouses were totally abandoned. I was actually able to park on-site without worry, I pulled my car into what looks like it was once a covered work/parking area right next to the elevator. It's on the outskirts of a town near I-70/SH-86, but the town is decrepit and falling apart. Most of the buildings and structures are abandoned and in disrepair. There is a small ranch with some cattle right across the road, but I think the person who warned us that somebody had called the police owned that ranch. Shoot me a private message if you're looking to visit, and I can give you some more information.

Very cool! Too bad someone always has to ruin the fun. Too bad I didn't live closer, looks like a great place to explore!

Thanks! Yeah it's my favorite too. Lol. I thought the idea of it fit in well around here being they were explorers. Lol.
