My troop has unofficially had an urbex badge for years (thanks to me), but now they're making it official! (Not exactly)

Oh you've got to be kidding... I aged out just a year or two too early to earn that.

Oh well, hopefully it will inspire a new generation of explorers. Great work on getting an unofficial one for your troop. What did it entail?

"Sorry, I didn't know I'm not supposed to be here," he said, knowing full well he wasn't supposed to be there.

Basically, they had to do three major things: explore an abandoned place without permission, explore an abandoned place WITH permission, and explore a site as part of a tour or as a historical site visit, and discuss all of them with their counselor (who was me) and present a photo essay of one of them. They also had to understand and discuss Leave No Trace principles, why historical preservation is important, identify hazards in abandonments, and know the first aid procedures for injuries one might expect to suffer while exploring.

Only a few boys ever did it, mainly because we had to keep it quiet. I found some badges on a site that had fake and goofy patrol and merit badges. It was supposed to be a haunted house, but it looked like an abandoned house just as well.

That's pretty awesome dude. Great to see someone doing something that beneficial for the Urbex community.
