I did a quick search in the public forums here and didn't see this story mentioned, so I thought I'd pass it on. It's a sad day when vandals show up anywhere, much worse when they start destroying what little history is left in a spot so many people visit and trek out to see. http://texashillco...n-ruins-destroyed/ I hope they catch these jerks.

Jesus Christ! My wife and I have been talking about going to Big Bend for about a year. This place was on our list to see. $1000 for the capture of these fucktards is far too little and any punishment short of torture is injustice. It looks like the buildings are completely gone - flattened. I don't know what compels someone to do something like that but I do hope that there is a special place in hell waiting for them

It's a tourist trap for yuppies The graveyard is sort of cool. There must have been at least $7 or more in quarters left on the graves. As for places to see around there, I rate Terlingua 1 meh.
Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in. |

I'm going to big bend this next weekend, I'll post pics.

I was about to add this story, but you beat me to it. This was such a disgusting thing to do! This is also an example of why I'm generally not a fan of people. Edit: I didn't proofread

http://www.uer.ca/...l.asp?picid=124705 Urban Caver hasn't checked in for about 7 months and I never met him, but from his DB postings and travels I immediately liked him. If I recall correctly he lives in or near Terlingua.

There's another abandoned mercury mine a couple miles from Terlingua. The Mariscal mine is hard to get to, if you get stuck/broke down out there it's going to get expen$ive. Road condition depends on the weather and when they last dozed the road. Use the lower road that runs near the Rio Grand to access it. Stay off the Elephant trail road or whatever it's called to the north. It's a cool place if you can make it, about 20 miles out on dirt roads, with some bad spots. You need a high ground clearance vehicle. I made it in a 2x4 van, but you may not be as skilled or lucky. A 4x4 is best with good rubber + spare, air pump & plug kit. Full tank of gas is a must...

I am not surprised. My family owns property in Terlingua. The last time they were there someone had dumped a ton of garbage on the land. Tires, stoves etc. This story is so sad. It's awful when people destroy historical places..
