Draining Near DC

Hello! This is my first real post (besides a quick into in the rookie forum) and I'm still working things out, so please bear with me if things look a little cloogy. Some of the pics are sideways-- ignore that as much as you can (couldn't get the to go right). Please forgive my total n00b-ness! And feel free to move this post to the rookie forum if you think it belongs there.

I've been draining near my house in the DC area a couple times, and I wanted to share some pictures from my most recent expedition. The drain seemed pretty large, at least we were in there for 2.5 hours and still didn't seem to be even halfway through.

1.

(1)It was double-tunnel drain that continued for a while before spilling into an extremely big room underground. (I know this picture has an entrance in it, but it could really be anywhere...)

There were five or six different person-sized pipes that spilled into this room, so I guess the drain probably services a LOT of the surrounding area. (I didn't include a picture here bc there were no even marginally legible ones. It was the best I could do using a cellphone cam flash and a mini maglite...)

2.

(2)I climbed up some rungs here and peeked through a hole in the manhole cover. I may have been wrong, but I think we were right under the police station .
There was still a lot more to explore, but at this point there had reached a 30% chance of rain, so we decided to gtfo.

3.

(3)We exited through the 2nd of the double tunnels. I squeezed into a little crawl-tunnel on the way back (there are some benefits of being 5 ft 4 and 130 lbs, I've discovered), and looked through a grate to try to figure out where we were. A pity my partner didn't get a picture of my ass wriggling up the pipe, that probably would have looked pretty funny.

4.

(4)A good walk back later, we popped out of the outfall, slightly soaked but still very much alive. I hope to return to this drain soon and investigate the rest of it.

Nice drain! Nice house since it's near that drain! A few explorers will be descending upon your city this weekend - want to meet up at some point?

Thanks! I like to think it's nice living 10 minutes walk from a massive drain, too. And meeting up would be fun, just don't know quite how to do it since I joined this site 4 days ago Help?

Thank you! Even though they're not amazing pictures by any stretch of the imagination, I figured it was better to start off on the right foot by sharing instead of being obnoxious and asking for stuff.

Good to see people getting in drains. Have fun, and keep an eye on the weather. It doesn't know what it wants to do!

Tell me about it! DC weather is pretty whacked out. It'll be be sunny and 75, and then within 5 minutes will start pouring rain. A couple weeks ago I also saw it snowing while 45 degrees and sunny. And of course, the worst weather always happens when I want to head into a drain...

My friend and I actually went in that drain about a month after you!

I didn't know about this site until three days ago, we never thought we'd find out who cryptomatic and kawaii tatto were.

We actually left a kind of sign in sheet in the tunnel, it's in a zip lock bag and is tucked into a crevice near a small side tunnel.

What other drains have you been in around DC? We've been in quite a few. We started off in neighborhoods where we could only crawl but found ones as big as that one. I actually have a list of around 20 locations we are going to check out. I know there's drains there, but just don't know how big they are.
