After a 5 hours of driving, we arrived at our motel only to find all of the police there. SWAT, Mobile Command and a few state boys. We even saw a few cops in full tactical gear complete with AR-15s. We could not even get onto the street it was on and could barely see the motel. (its behind the one you can see) I went down a side street to call the motel and saw another cop with a few citizens. I told him the situation and he recommended a few other places to stay and that "it could take upto 24 hours to resolve the situation" credit Velly So... we hit the nearest bar to try to book another place and unbook the current place. We were able to get into a shithole nearby. Now.. on with the reason for the trip... 1

This was just an extended recon. There will be at least 2 more trips out due to the huge size of this place and the time it takes to get from one area to the next while avoiding detection of the on site police. Sat images show over one hundred buildings. Some are being used- most are not....

Looks like it was worth it though! If you need help exploring the "hundred" or so buildings, let me know!

Given the nature of the product produced here, each set of buildings are identical. There are 10 or so sets of these identical buildings. Plus HUGE factory type buildings and employee housing closer to the main road. I assume at the time it was active it was a small town and has everything to support the inhabitants. We could see so much from the main road.... Some buildings are still in use and because its federal land its guarded 24/7 by onsite police. If you are willing to make the trip.... sure!

Wow. Really great set. Needless to say, I'm jealous. This location looks marvelous. Best of luck exploring the rest if the property, and I look forward to seeing more photos.

I absolutely love these shots. ALL of them! What an awesome, photogenic, location. This area is full of color, rust, and cool wheels. Pic 3 made a beautiful pic too. I would REALLY enjoy this out of the way, along the tracks, kind of place.
A place of Mystery is Always worth a curiosity trip! |
