Figured Id see if anyone here is shooting long range, 800yds plus. Been getting into it pretty hard the last few years and have performed fairly well during the matches Ive shot.

Only if I'm being chased! The drummer in our band is a long time 1000 shooter, and has finished in the top 15 at Camp Perry. I personally don't own anything that will shoot that damn far!
I have changed my personal exploring ethics code. From now on it will be: "Take only aimed shots, leave only hobo corpses." Copper scrappers, meth heads and homeless beware. The Jonsered cometh among you, bringing fear and dread. | |
I picked up a Savage 110 FCP in .300WM for the purpose of doing some long range shooting. The club I'm in does 500yd on Wednesdays, and LR matches here and there. I'm also about a hour from the CMP range in Anniston AL, which has 600yd. I haven't stepped out beyond 100yd yet. I'm working on getting more consistent. I can put together a .75" 3-5 shot group here and there, but not as regularly as I would like. I'm also trying to get a couple hundred rounds of brass together to start reloading, it's getting a bit expensive to feed. I shot 25m rimfire way back in highschool, and have been wanting to get back into target shooting for a while now.

It's been a while, but I was going out to 1200 with a buddy's 50. I've been looking at building a 6.5 Creedmoor at some point in the future for it.

Nice! I bought a custom 6.5CM a few years back and have been having a blast with it. Good feeling to make consistent hits past 1000yds. Pretty much had to sell the rights to my first born to afford it but good god was it worth it haha.

our range only goes to 500m, of course out where I live you can shoot a couple miles across some pastures with no obstructions if you wanted to! hitting the 8" gong at 500m is tough with either my 700 in 308 or my Shilen barreled custom 7mag. I can do it just not every time 7mag seems to have about 6" of spindrift, add some cross wind and I may have to hold about 8" of windage some days. Then theres the mirage! This is pretty much a desert on 100F plus days its hard to see one 8" gong at 500 meters it looks more like several waving up and down. we got guys in our club that shoot 12-14lb benchrest guns in 6mm dash something at 4" clay pigeons at 400m when getting zero'd on paper they use video cams with RF link not spotting scopes! rich mans sport on related note Im now shooting a handgun at 4" gong at 200yds 223 Contender with 4X scope 1.
