Seeking Houston Urban Explorers

Hello everybody! My name is Murky and I'm studying film production at my school. My current project is to make a newscast, and I'd love to do one on Urbex.

I'd like to interview some of you for this newscast. I'd ask questions such as "why do you enjoy the hobby?" and "how would you explain this hobby to people who've never heard of it?" and a few more about your experiences while exploring. I'd also be ecstatic if I could accompany you in one of your Urbex adventures and film you in the act!

This means a lot to me as I really think it could end up being a cool story, and an amazing learning opportunity.

Enough of what this means to me, what does it mean to you Houston explorers? I'm a student and don't have tons in the money category, but I can pay for a meal or two, or if you live nearby, serious discounts on delicious pizza!!

I'm in NW Houston, but I'm willing to drive a good distance away for this opportunity to meet some of you!

Please PM me so we can work out specifics.

Moved your thread to the region Houston is in..

It will probably get fewer flames here and may even lead to Houston contacts.

Thanks, I'm not super familiar with the layout of the website yet, I appreciate it!

Not to offend you but you don't have any idea how many times people posing as reporters or journalism students join UER ostensibly to learn about the hobby and whats makes us do this so they can write their term paper or publish an article or a film etc.

Having been through this a number of times myself, I can only suggest you wont find much of a plot or even, the real story by paying for the pizza and interviewing someone.

The reasons people do this "hobby" are as varied as the people themselves. Some people are into the photography / artistic aspect. Others tend to seek the adrenalin rush that infiltrating off limits locations brings. Of course then you have the decay-o-philes, people who find beauty and peace among the deteriorated infrastructures of the urban landscape.

You should read the book Access All Areas by the late Ninjalicious a personal friend of this site's owner. Then I suggest meeting up with locals to go exploring for yourself. Houston is full of great opportunities to explore. Check out the video sub forum here for some amazing work some of it even professional.

Anything less will just end up being opinions and drivel. Good luck with your project. Don't be offended if nobody takes you up. Not just because they think you might be a cop because there is plenty out there to explore without breaking any laws. Many here actually don't explore unless they obtain permission from property owners.

You should read as much as possible here (Rookies forum answers almost all Qs) before posting especially on the Main forum.

First impress, then undress...
It doesn't take that much effort to find a site, explore it, snap some shots and post a thread of it on the appropriate forum.
As stated by 2Xplorations we've seen all types of hype here.
We like pictures... with stories, just the facts, please.

Asking for handouts is frowned on mighty here and even free pizza doesn't gloss it over... Houston has hundreds, thousands(!) of sites to be splored if you just look for them. It's hard not to stumble into sites almost no matter where you are. In a city as large as Houston there are sites (both active and abandoned) all around if you just look.

First:
Read as much as possible here.
Learn about the local/state/federal trespassing laws and if/how they apply to you. Avoid committing felonies when exploring and limit your legal exposure.
Asking for permission is another viable option if done right. There are threads about this on UER.
Scout out some sites, and go sploring...

A good place to start would be the brewery down south. It has enough interest for a school project. The best way to track urbex is to be involved. Good luck and happy hunting!

I'm in Northwest Houston as well, when I'm not traveling to explore.

Isn't that place being knocked down?

Pizza? Hmmm... From where, exactly? I love pizza, urbex, and I'm social.

I'm in Dallas, but I'll drive to Houston as long as there's free pizza...

* Edit: Damn, I just saw the dates on this thread. I think we lost them. What about the pizza??

He found someone else to take the bait. According to his reply message to me he may need more victims in 1-3 weeks. You and I are good for pizza, though! If you do come down here again I'll go eat pizza with you and not arrest you.

That sounds like a good plan to me! As much as I love free pizza, it wouldn't feel very free after posting bail. I like your offer a lot more!

I'm actually just terrible at life and I never got notifications when I had posts replied to, sorry! A through Z is right though, I had found somebody to explore with, just got the exploration in the other day, and I'd like to get another person for it, to get some different views hopefully.

Dallas is pretty far but if you know of any locations somewhere in between to go explore then that'd be amazing, and to make it up I suppose I ought to bring lunch, but probably might not be pizza if I need to leave too early in the morning.

Also I'm extremely sorry that this in itself is like 2 weeks after your reply

An update on the project! I just wrapped up an exploration with Peptic Ulcer and it was a total success! I'd like to interview one or two more people to get a few different views and voices, but in the meantime I was bored, so I made a short video to tease my documentary, named DECAY.

I hope you all enjoy!

I see Rinzler slithered out from underneath his bridge to post something. Why don't go troll somewhere else.
