Exploring the Hill Country and beyond

I've been over traveling to small Texas towns on the weekends, over the past few months. I moved here last year from the east coast, and it's been a bit of an adjustment to photographing places in rural areas. In a large city, rattlesnakes were the least of my worries.

These photos are from some of my favorite places that I've been to over the last couple of months. Most of the towns all declined for the same reason. They were all dependent on one big industry and when that collapsed, so did the town.As much as I love photographing abandoned buildings, I always like to see small towns bounce back. I find that locals are a wonderful resource, so I try to spend money in said towns

A couple of weekends ago, I discovered my first small town that had no ATM and the diner in town only took cash or checks( which i thought odd).

I believe it's an old bank/retail. It's impressive that the ornate columns are still standing
