Up the road a bit. Originally went to the area to scout a different location that I ended up passing on and came across this spot on the outskirts of town. I know we are not supposed to pose POEs, but there are so many broken windows and doors in the place it is not a secret. But just to be sure I did not post the POE that I used. The photos are pretty self explanatory. Garden by Road Extx, on Flickr This room was the first room I looked at, and was buttoned up tight. I was afraid they all would be. There were a lot of signage warning people other than me to stay out. Dominoes by Road Extx, on Flickr Just around the corner I found my first room I could get into. Not much left. great shots. Schools are always a little bittersweet. You would think there would never NOT be a need for a school. I actually ran across a whole set of those childcraft books at a garage sale today. I passed them up because they were missing one of the series (#3, to be exact.) They looked pretty rad, and had they all been there they'd be on my bookshelves right now. The weather's getting juuuust about right for me to get out and explore some places that have been on my radar for a while now. It's been a long dry spell this year for finding cool spots.

Really enjoyed your photos. Have always enjoyed schools of all kinds. This one must of been great. Recess at 10, Lunch at 11 and PE at 12. Wow! These kids had it made!

I hear you! I am loving the cooler mornings, the afternoons are still a little warm! It was in the mid 90s when I hit the school up, I was pretty rank and exhausted when I finished up!

Not only the kids, but the teachers too! lol I intend to go back soon. I took some photos of the old playground but all were pretty blown out as I had my iso set high for the inside shots with low light and forgot to adjust for full sun outside. Rookie! Will be better, would rather have a nice cloudy background for the outside shots anyway. Edit: Just to add some more information. This school was originally a "blacks only" school. The official name of the school was "City name Colored School" The history of this site is tough for me to follow. It was established in the early 1900s by one account. Several buildings were relocated in the 40s to land that was gifted to the ISD. Additional buildings were added to this location, which was eventually turned into an Elementary school campus, then after being shut down and sold for $100 it was to be a community center. It has suffered from a couple of bouts of arson, that and back taxes have rendered this place the shell it is now. I should have added this info in the first posting, but only just now dug up this information today at lunch. Added a photo from Google earth to show the buildings. The green outlines show locations I gained entrance into. The blue outlines four were buttoned up tight, multiple chains, doors bolted, and even barricaded inside and out. Blue building on the lower left had broken windows, but not much inside to see. Red outline building is gone, it burned down in March of 2014.

awesome shots. I love schools. always things left behind.

The photo of the empty library is my favorite. I always love discovering the history of places. I am always amazed in small towns how much people love to dish the "past".

In the 9th picture, there is something on the carpet. At first glance, looks like a white powder spread on the floor. Salt in a specified pattern? LOL
