Yeah, this place is pretty much a no-go at this point. I know a couple of guys that went a few months ago and got fines/tickets even though they said the cop was pretty nice about everything, but then just as they thought they would be getting off with no ticket he started writing them up.

It might have helped that you were not caught on the actual property...

The cop probably didn't think was a big deal. However if the owner or his supervisor says to write it, they have little choice but to so.

They only way out that would have been to be outside the property, not admit to going in, and of coarse no one seeing you inside.

Sometimes shit goes bad and there's really no way to foresee it coming even though some signs of potential trouble might have been there.
Other times you bag a high risk site with no issues even though it had patrols and danger written all over it.
All I can say is don't do anything that would escalate charges to a felony level.
Try not to piss off the arresting cops... things can always get worse.
Meh, can't win all the time.

Yeah bro, Linfield's not been a good idea for about a year now. You're not the first group I know to have recent difficulties there and the Limerick police are not usually all that friendly either. You got lucky, for sure. Usually it's a nice $450 ticket.

I thought that looked familiar, bahahaha!
I retract my previous post; it's a real tight small town And some of those folks used to work there...

Even a decade ago I park blocks away and come in using the State Game lands on the east side.
If locals thought you looked ok they weren't a problem; I talked with them more than once.
Back then some of them liked to take walks back there.

Yep. This is why you should always be careful what you say to police and do whatever you can can to not incriminate yourself further. I don't know about your friends, but people seem to like to talk and give up all sorts of information when they think they have the "cool guy" cop. Then BAM, they get hit with a ticket.

Concerning OP's situation: If I am ever caught off of a property, there is zero chance I am admitting to being on the property. Even if the cop thinks he saw me in there, it's his job to try and prove that. I'm not going to just give that info up. Lying is not ok, but it's your right to chose to not answer an officer's question. I would do this all as politely as possible, obviously.

Aaha I've been stopped too, I tried being honest. Though the still appreciated the honesty it only got our punishment reduced. We got detained by security until the police came, who did nothing.

Been detained but never arrested. Only had a handful of run ins with police or security. Couple times in the USA, once in Canada (nicest experience EVER, he felt so bad he caught us and kept apologizing to us before shaking our hands and letting us go), and one time by the Gardaí in Ireland.

Can happen to anyone, at any time. You just never know.

If you explore enough without permission the odds will catch up with you. What happens depends on the situation and how you handle it.

No situation is the same. Bare in mind if you are trespassing on adjacent land sometimes telling them what are were really doing will work better for you. Many times cops understand curiosity and aren't interested in busting you if all you're doing is looking/shooting.
Sometimes omitting the whole truth can work against you...

Never lie when the truth would serve you better.
If you must lie, lie by omission.

It shows you respect them even if they do ferret you out.

I had a similar experience to you. My friend has his camera and he said he was doing photos for his portfolio. We were politely asked to leave as well! I honestly now make it a point to have a real camera with us so we can use it as an excuse.

The more you look and behave like a pro shooter, the easier it is!
L lens and pro bodies are free passes to many places normally off limits to most folks if you play it right. Good fun.

Got invited up into a RR signal control tower, shot the Globe of Death cycle act up way too close by invite and more.

Lol, just remember sometimes all the pro gear you can carry won't save you.
There's always some dopey good citizen that will think your tripod is a rifle and will call in a SWAT team if they can.
Yes, they really are that stupid.

Whenever I want to ask locals about a place, they seem way more willing to talk when I attach the 300mm lens and lens hood. I guess it looks more professional.

ahaha really, one time friends and I were on this rooftop and the owner came out and asked us what we were doing, and we said exploring. Then he went a speech about god and if it was his will to have us here, we should just be safe up there and let us continue exploring (there was like 8 of us, a lot I know) . I guess that's Canada for you.

I'm always curious as to when my luck is going to run out. It's only a matter of time I guess.

If you're a pro and assess everything perfectly, you shouldn't but there is some luck involved. The more time goes on, the harder things get. I guess it comes down to this: nobody is immune. Do stupid things smartly.

To quote Chuck P: "On a long enough timeline, everyone's survival rate drops to zero."

You can assess risk, manage risk, roll onto every site in a ghille suit like a tumbleweed, but eventually something's going to go against you. Nature of the beast. The more you do this hobby, the more likely something's going to blow up in your face at some point. Yamamoto Tsunetomo said, pertaining to Samurai, "Meditation on inevitable death should be performed daily." I say that an UrbEx enthusiast should meditate daily on arrest and injury.

Sometimes you meet cool cops who let you get away with anything.

Sometimes you get jammed up by a dickhead.

The point is you have no choice and never know which you are going to get so avoid the experience.

Where you park and how/when you go into a building/property is like 90% of not getting caught.

The only fool proof way to shoot without risk of arrest is with permission. It rocks.

Some sites you can never obtain permission or it costs you though the nose plus may limit what/where you can shoot, example the Beth Steel pre-casino.
-Risk verses reward- applies to shooting without some sort of permission; don't be a fool and take big risks for a shit site!
