Open for only 20 months it closed in 1919 were it sat abandoned. In 1926 the 9,000 plus acre camp was sold to Houston and the city turned 1,500 acres of the main complex into a park and dedicated it to those who died in WW1. The park was named Memorial Park and aside from a golf course and tennes courts the park was left to nature.
