Title says all! A thread for those who've snapped the surreal scene of a derelict shopping mall. I would post my own pictures to get this started, but... I don't have any. It's up to you guys!

Not completely abandoned, but out of a potential 200 stores, only 4 or 5 remain. Power is off in about half the mall.

The closest I've got to an abandoned mall, or shopping centre as we call them in the UK. This place had been abandoned for years but was being used regularly for airsoft games, and before it was demolished you used to be able to phone them up and go inside after hours, when nobody was running around with pretend guns.

Also stumbled across an abandoned strip mall last year, we found ways into a couple of the units, the largest being a former Big Lots which was stripped absolutely bare.

Brookdale Mall in Brooklyn Center MN. Slowly died and then was mostly demolished to put in a strip mall.

Even the security truck was abandoned, although we did get hassled by some rent-a-cops in an A-Team van while dumpster diving some mannequins

River Roads Mall in a St. Louis Suburb (most of my pictures sucked):

And of course, the ever classic, long lost, much missed KD Station. A mall so epic it made Iowa worth driving to. An abandoned mall built inside an abandoned meat packing plant. With bowling alley and indoor mini golf, and tons of merchandise still left behind! Many a road trip and overnight campout were made here.

Yes, the left booze behind too. It tasted awful

Turn off the internet and go play outside.

I looove abandoned malls. Probably more than I should. The best advantage to malls in the U.S. dying out slowly is that we'll have plenty to explore as the next few decades pass.

My city has had a heap of abandoned malls over the years, but my favorite is one I've been to so many times I've honestly lost count. I wasn't raised here, so I never had any memories of the mall except the announcement of its closure in 2013. But since then, I ended up falling in love with the place. I was lucky enough to get inside shortly before they began demolition over this past summer. And (!), because I can't get enough of it, I went back yesterday and shot some decent demolition shots.

Here's all the pictures and stories and stuff.

Dead malls are where I got my start - it was watching the teardown of this one: Lakehurst in Waukegan, IL, way the hell back in 2004...

...that led me to the Deadmalls.com entry on the legendary Dixie Square Mall, of The Blues Brothers fame. Spent years watching others document this place before I finally was able to tag along with a group in 2009. I was hooked and went back nine more times - learned much about photography, here. Gone since 2012, but kind of happy Señor Melendez can never have this one.

My interest began with Dixie Square and deadmalls.com, that's what led me here too! My biggest disappointment was not getting out to see Dixie, but I am glad I can still see the many pictures and the many stories of cops and wild dogs. Mr. Less has recently destroyed another mall recently too.

Is that second one Rolling Acres? I had some pics of that (I only got in to the area just off the Penney's outlet before I ducked out. Got spooked and was in plain sight of the active Penney's store), but I think I lost them on my last hard drive crash.

I THOUGHT I recognized that last photo! It was decently overcast the day we went in there, so many of my pictures were darker. It turned more sunny as we were heading out of there.

I hear they are trying yet again to revitalize that mall....though my friend who works across the street from it says it's even more abandoned than when we were down there three years ago.

Rolling Acres is being torn down; and yes, it was looking absolutely thrashed immediately beforehand.

I figured that day would come. Last time I was at Rolling Acres was 2012 I want to say....the Penneys outlet was still open, but I think that closed up not long after I was there.

The other mall in his (and mine) is the Mills, which I think still has 4 or 5 stores left. I know Bass Pro left and I think I heard Kohl's was closing up. Last time I was in there, Burlington Coat Factory and a budge theater were also still open, but both are long gone now.

Speaking of abandoned Ohio malls, I just saw a write-up on Randall Park on Dead Mall Enthusiasts the other day. I thought that one was long torn down as well?

Yes Randall Park mall has been demolished, all that stands is the power sports school, the theater and three of the anchor stores. They are demolishing Rolling Acres the same way-removing the inside the mall but leaving the anchors (and also demo JC Penny).

The Mills I visited this year and bass pro was still open, with khol's, a gym, a kids bounce place, and the Arcade. I spent 2hrs at the arcade-it was awesome!

A few months back I went with some other to a abandoned mall. It wasn't that interesting. I got bored one night and made a video.

I was just at the Mills a week or so ago. I had heard Bass Pro was leaving, but I see they are still there (for now...I saw signage up the highway with new construction announcing a future home for Bass Pro.). Didn't really have time to do much at the arcade, but we plan to go back and hang out there for a couple hours our next trip down there.

DME lost a bunch of photo albums, so someone re-made the Randall Park one. But yeah, the mall's gone now.

I think the only thing that is still active there is the technical school. I was there less than a week ago and they were working on taking down what was one of the anchors. I'm pretty sure it was the Lasalle.
