I just saw an IG post of a popular explorer who just climbed to the top & spent a 'couple hours' up there. (There are plenty of catwalks & such). Besides the factor of heights & obvious legality issues, doesn't the presence of radio waves make that incredibly stupid & dangerous??

There's TV and FM transmission antennas up there.
He was below these.
Depending on the wave propagation patterns, distance, and wattage output would determine exposure.
80-100 MHZ is a dangerous range for near exposure. FM is around 96 MHZ, TV is below the most dangerous frequently range.
Guess if they didn't get burned or fry their eyes they're are ok. Electronic devices might not do too well though.

Fair enough. Same guy has several posts of him hanging out at the top of the Bay Bridge.

Same guy who just got caught trying to climb the East Span SAS at 3:00 on a Sunday.

His methods and the rest of the IG people's methods of exploring are negatively affecting exploring for the rest of us. Brazening your way up things, on camera, with no stealth, will only cause security to be locked down even tighter.

Already Cal-trans is redesigning the cable gates on the East span and planning on installing more cameras on the cables because of his last stunt.
The same goes for rooftops. One IG kids pulls of a rooftop then the next thing you know one after the other "followers" who have to get the same exact picture, march up there until the whole place gets locked down.

I've disliked the guy since I first saw his instagram. He's really built up an entire insta-fanbase. He currently has a gofundme set up to help recover his camera and other equipment the police took from him when he got arrested. Although he's only raised like 10 dollars out of 6000 (the goal). The dumbf**ck deserves to get his camera taken away. Instagram ruins urban exploring, and if anyone pulls off a Bay Bridge climb again, 1. Good Luck, and 2. I hope to not here about it, whether they were successful or not.

To all posts: Hehe lol...hahaha.
So, I too went up there (awhile ago) and took in the largeness and height of the thing and said nope. So that's what happened, but there was this other thing, a brand new reservoir being built right at the same spot that was cool to inspect. So the some guy climbed a tower and I went into a giant underground tank. Didn't find any tunnels leading to the tower, or I missed it. Tell you guys some more of this story as soon as I make it up. L8!

Perhaps people should feedback on his GoFundMe in civil, hard-to-simply-dismiss terms in order to educate potential donors/followers/copycats about:

1) The exact asshattery that got MU's equipment confiscated...

2) The fact that others who aren't IG asshats have been doing this sort of exploration/photography for years-if-not-decades, but don't get their equipment confiscated, because they actually utilize foreplanning and competence so that they AREN'T caught...

3) That MU's exploits are short-term glories for himself that end up fucking things up for everyone else who do this with competence and care, and...

4) That he should learn to bear responsibility for his own failures, instead of asking for a handout so that he learns nothing about not-getting-caught, and by extension, not-fucking-things-up for everyone else.

As much as all this is plain-and-obvious for us, it's probable that like so much of things and the populace, people mostly appreciate things on a superficial level and don't take much of an effort to figure out the whats, whys, and overall outcomes as it affects others. It is possible that this will be the first time many (including IG copycats) might hear about this.

Dunno if he has the ability to delete comments on his GoFundMe page, so it might be a good idea to place an original of the post somewhere (here?) so that it can be re-posted without too much effort.

fuckin dot. That type of explorers simply do not care about the location once they've been to it. They're a disgrace to future explorers for putting locations under a spotlight. Too bad they didn't put that dumb ass on a probation prohibiting social media use.

These kids have no concept of what they are doing. I doubt they like tunnels for tunnels and bridges for bridges. They just see cool stuff and say, "Oh hey, that's cool, I can do that to." Yeah, well, that's a piss poor reason for exploring.

Yuichi, I love you man. I wish I knew about that storage tank. There's too much stuff going on to keep track of it all. I do know about a tunnel, but it's pretty heavily camera'd up. As my approach to all of this is one of stealth I didn't infiltrate it as fast as possible and run away with the police chasing me. Yeah, you can climb a bridge in the daytime, get called in, run from the police and hide for hours, but that's the path of the fool. Better to have no one ever know you were there and explore it at your leisure.

Some moron gave him $10, so far... where's the compassion for this worthless asswipe?

We need a new website for shitbirds like this and ones who destroy national treasures.
GoFuckme.com which gives a complete record of their online criminal activities and full contact details for everyone to view

His email address is easy to find... send him some wuv or false promises of help... bahahaha!

Some morons still think having followers on IG actually means something. The only thing followers on IG care about is looking at a picture.

The only folks I have seen actually build a solid network from IG are the ones that contribute back to the community somehow.

If 85% of these attention seekers couldn't post about, or find locations via social media they would not bother exploring.
