New town/state ordinance? urban renewal?

Hello everyone, its been a while since I've posted, and my latest pics are coming soon. In the mean time, I have been doing a lot of extra footwork to find smaller locations closer to home in addition to my bigger trips.

Getting to the point, this year I have seen a MASSIVE upswing in building condemnation (always followed shortly by demo) as well as a bunch of general demolition permits. In my town even a bunch of seemingly fine houses have been demo'ed with many more slated. Is there some kind of new ordinance or incentive, urban renewal program or other in MA or New England prompting this? Maybe a new developer in the area I am not aware of? does anyone have any ideas or similar experiences in this area?

(to put it in perspective, my town went from issuing an average of 1 demo permit a month to a whopping 6 on average.)
