Is anyone in the area know if Bennett is still standing? I will be in the area in the next few weeks, but didn't want to go out of the way if it has been demolished. Thanks!

I've been by it a few times in the last year. It's still there in its entirety.

I figured it's one that's nearly impossible to get in, but would still be cool to see in person. Thanks for the info guys.

I'm surprised it hasn't fallen in on itself by now. It appears that a good enchilada fart would bring it tumbling down.

It was still standing 2 weeks ago when I drove by. They've increased the fences and the no trespassing signs start as soon as you turn off to go to the condos or pool/tennis courts.

So yes it is still standing. There is a new fence around it. It is pretty impossible to get in. I actually think this place will fall in on itself before they demolish it. There is an apartment complex behind it and all the water, and electric lines actually run under Bennett. So they would have to shut off everyones water and electric to reroute things just so they could demo it. So I think it will be standing for a while but nature will win in the end.
Closer than you think~ When you dig up the past, you tend to get dirty. http://www.flickr.com/photos/rebeldead/ |

It's worth going to ogle it from the road, even if you don't even try to get in. Nothing like it will ever exist again.

The Poughkeepsie Journal ran a unique story yesterday about an Opera about the school. Not urbex-related, but gives some background on the building's history if anybody is interested. http://www.poughke...-history/88972038/

I would advise not going inside, from a safety standpoint. When I was there 5-6 years ago, it was already VERY dangerous. Since then the front collapsed more and I can only imagine what else has fallen inside.

But have they implemented the rabid bears that spit Africanized killer bees there?
Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in. |
