I'm in the market for my first machine gun. Yes, I am meaning real machine gun. I have experience in the field and deal with them fairly regularly and legally.
Since a M16 lower or HK Autosear is $25-30k, I'm thinking this is the best way to get into all that. Current build idea is a M11 with a Lage upper and rate reducer, wearing a reflex sight and Liberty Mystic-X suppressor on a trilug mount. That way I can swap the can between my other firearms easily.
Mostly it'll be a "the docs have finally fixed me" present to myself. That and they are stupid amounts of fun. What do you guys think? And yes, I am aware of all the legal requirements I'd have to go through.

MAC does seem to be the cheapest way into the market. Spitfires run in the same range and are a lot of fun. STENS are a tad more. If you go the MAC route, the LAGE upper is almost a most for me. Tames the little beast right down and makes a decent carbine of it.

It'd be purdy neat. I personally am not a fan of smgs and smaller non-crew served style machine guns but if it gets you off then who is anyone to stand in your way, haha.

I'm a sucker for pistol caliber carbines. When I have the money, I intend to get an AR upper in .357 magnum. Yes, that is a thing. Ron Williams (famous gunsmith) makes them in .357, .44, and .50AE, using DE mags sleeved into straight body 20rnd AR mags.
I haven't shot a spitfire, but the Mac, Sten, hell even MP5 are a great amount of fun. Whole thought was to get me a solid subgun without the godawful barrier price of what MP5 packs cost.
But yeah, a Lage upper would be mandatory.

Spitfire was a .45 semi auto carbine made in Arizona back in the 60s. Looks like a poor mans Thompson, but with the tubular receiver and bolt of an M3 Grease Gun. They would sort of turn themselves full auto after enough firing, so the ATF made everybody register them. Fun to shoot, stable and accurate, and they run $3000 to $4500 when you run across them.

Huh, fair enough. I might have seen one before, just didn't realize what it was then.
What killed me was a guy was selling a M10 with ~12 mags, Lage upper, and a ton of parts for $3500 + stamp a year ago and I didn't have the cash. It sat for 6 months or so at that INSANE price.
Still kill me when I think about it.

Ive fired M16, M4, S&W 76, Browning M2, and a miniature Thompson 1927 1/4 scale in 25ACP
cant afford to shoot any of them !

I shoot a MP5SD, M16 (suppressed), and Mac10 (suppressed) fairly often, but yeah ammo is spendy. Will be doing a M1A1 tommy, Swedish K, 1919, M2hb, and a whole bunch more this weekend though.
Either way, whatever I buy won't end up on a heavy firing schedule unless they have a .22 kit for it. Ammo is expensive and all. But I see it more as an investment that is fun.

I also shot a M16 with a 22LR dedicated upper, it was running like 850rpm too 40rd magazine was almost impossible to load after 20 or so rounds and it got real dirty real quick but at least it was cheap
our club near Dallas hosted the AR15.com shoot about 5 years ago, there was everything there except a mini we had a 1919 water cooled, even a few MP40 bring backs, a Reising and some other NFA stuff like a 3 shot Ithaca 37 pistol witness protection it was a factory gun not a sawed off only a few of us dared shoot it, the buckshot round permanently damaged nerves in my hand I think!
if I was gonna blow a bunch of money Id go for a 1927A1 horizontal grip or a Thompson M1 like my old man carried in WW2

Im a NRA Instructor, sometimes I feel like they are their own worst enemy. I don't always agree with them but will say this, they do a ton of good things the average member isn't aware of and non members will never hear of.
If there is another organization that does so much for the 2A and our rights, has a powerful PAC and staff lawyers all over the place, technical support all for free, let me know I'll join them too!
Im a TSRA member too and theyre great, got a lawyer or two somewhere, mostly they care about competition, matches and such.

Might look into the NFA-TCA (National Firearms Act Trade and Collectors Association. Primarily an MG assoc, but they deal with AOWs, SBRs and Destructive Devices as well., I've written a couple of papers for them. Small organization, but growing everyday, and consisting of most of the manufacturers I know of, plus a ton of guys like us. Their head attorney is Mark Barnes, who has spent a lifetime being a pain the BATF&Es ass.

Full auto is fun, but I complain about the cost of .300WM and buying decent glass for my target/long-range rifle...
Now if I could do something in .22rimfire....

Tipman Arms made a series of belt fed MGs in .22 back in the 70s and 80s. Cool little guns and as functional as any other .22.
