Thanks to my friend MountainManDan for this one! Alright, history time. This location was a boy scouts camp up until the early 60's. It was shortly after converted to a men's correctional center & a medium security prison. A famous author who did time here once stated that it was more of a resort than a prison, inmates had access to a swimming pool, baseball field, and various other facilities. In 2003 it was shut down because of budget cuts, and has been vacant since (though they have recently refurbished the cell blocks in case other prisons no longer have room for increasing inmate counts). They hired a deputy to patrol the site because of copper thefts, though in 2008 they replaced the deputy with a $111k security system, including cameras & motion-triggered alarms. I thought this was possibly a scare tactic, though we heard the power lines buzzing & noticed most lights still powered on. This ultimately made me decide not to get too close to the cell blocks, which is unfortunate because this facility had a famous nickname due to the way the cells were arranged. Anyway, be prepared for a long, mosquito-infested hike! 1.

23. The perimeter of the pool was overgrown with a tall forrest of weeds, so finding the entrance was almost impossible. We did eventually, but found it padlocked.

I'm morbidly curious to see what happens when someone gets close to one of the cell blocks. Cool little post Void, (you let a padlock stop you from peering at the pool!? Come on! ;) Looking forward to seeing your photos, Dan!
