Six Flags New Orleans aka "Jazzland" - May 2016 - *Photo-heavy*

Hey Y'all,

I had been planning a trip to NOLA for 2+ months and did a lot of research for this one. My first 2 attempts to access this spot were thwarted---once by heavy rains which caused a chosen access point into the park to flood with swamp water, and once by the presence of multiple overzealous security guards.

Getting this photoset was no easy feat. On my 3rd attempt, and with help from people outside (eyes on the exterior of the park), I was able to ingress and spend about 3 hours. At the time, there were still 3 security vehicles and guards from a private company sitting on the park, but because I was being made aware of their movements, I was able to avoid them.

Here are some choice shots:

Normally, this would be the part where I would warn you against putting the real name as the title of the thread (because it is google searchable at that point), but this spot is well known. So no real harm there.

Good shots man. I was there in the middle of summer last year while there was active filming and didn't run into security at all until we were leaving. Sounds like you have some good friends to stand watch for you. Wish I had that when I went; it might have taken the edge off me. Such a wonderful place to wander around.

Every time you read this, I become more powerful.

I've long said I needed a "spotter" for some of my locations, or (at the very least) a drop-off/pick-up driver for those places with no real parking. My problem is, everyone who is interested enough to do it wants to explore (we've considered taking shifts, in that respect) and those who are not interested in exploring don't understand the thrill of running around empty places/don't want to "risk" getting caught. Glad you found someone to lend a hand. You got a great story of exploring and some awesome pictures that came of it.

On an interesting side note, i saw this semi-timely article roll across my facebook feed today:

I hear ya. I kinda figured no harm since it is so well known.

Yeah....I am super-lucky when it comes to friends. It was a magical place to explore.

Nice article/link. Looks like they've pulled pics taken over several years. Some parts of the rides aren't even there anymore. It is interesting to see how the site has changed over 10+ years.

Wife and I were there back in March, except only time we got a chance was to go at night and yes, parking was a bitch lol. That is about a mile hike from the subdivision. Great pictures!

Oh yeah, was it windy?! Did you see the Ferris wheel move?!

Cool pix, indeed a bucket list explore.
I watched a video of the location and I swear I saw an alligator in the background, did you see any?
Also, what do you think of someone going alone? My goal would be to arrive before sunup and likely spend all day into the evening.

If I may, I would personally advise bringing a buddy or two. You never know when somebody else will come along, cop or vagrant. There used to be a plethora of alligators there, but they've long been removed. Now that's not saying you won't find one there, as the surrounding area is ideal habitat for them.

Great shots man. Visiting that place seems beautifully haunting and spectacular. I wish I had a good couple of pals that would watch my back as I'd enter one of the more riskier spots like this. I'm sure it was great fun.

There's still some gators and security drives through like they own the place.

Interestingly enough, you can even search in google maps for this one (or simply type in "abandoned" in the general area) and it will show up, along with some random and mostly uninteresting other places, lol.

Glad to hear you had such a fruitful visit, OP. I'm also glad there was no mention of any alligators or armed robber run-ins during your explore. Those were probably just silly rumors...

Nice photo set! Will have to make a trip out there since the location is geographically close (16 hrs drive).

Keeping active within the URBEX Community. If you have to ask then I think you might be headed in the right direction....
