McMenamin's Tacoma

So I heard on the radio today that the newest McMenamins is going to be in a 6-story abandoned-since-the-1960's Elks Lodge- how come I didn't know about this place before now

Anyway, I think it's awesome that they are doing what so many of us wish would happen to these places--instead of being torn down--and hope that they continue to save buildings like this from destruction. I heard they even have the original plans for the place and are trying to re-create some of the original design, and even putting in a planned for but never-started stained glass window from sometime in the building's history.

Has anyone been to the Bothell one or any of the other historic buildings they have converted? I haven't yet, but I know someone who works there so I should try to get a tour sometime

I've enjoyed the McMenamin's establishments in Oregon. They've demonstrated appropriate adaptive, functional reuse while also honoring architecture, history, and atmosphere of their buildings.

I've had my eye on this spot for a couple years but never found a way in. I believe McMenamins is going to redo the old town hall building in downtown Tacoma as well. Nice shots AaronNi, making me jealous.

Thanks SH, it was probably the most ornate place I've been in. The only stuff that was left was out of reach, those plaster sculptures for example. The Old Town Hall was really disappointing compared to the Elks.

Nice, thanks for sharing Aaron!

I'm glad to hear the ones people have been to are solid, my co-worker's boyfriend works at one and she said it was cool, but that seemed like a biased source
