At the Chapel, on the Roof

One the first night of a warm August weekend, 2015, I climbed onto the rooftop of this church. Punchy had told me about it and I was keen to check it out.

I stopped by around 8 to take some exteriors and assess the lighting and security situation. As you can see it was well-lit. And as I would learn several hours later, the lights stay on. The security presence turned out to be foreshadowing for how the night would end, but I'll get to that soon.

Small set, the lighting was difficult to work with and the rooftop was small.

The spires reminded me of a cityscape.

Eventually, I had to decide whether to climb to a new section of roof - which would require crossing a well-lit section of scaffolding - or whether to climb down. Although it was late, there was still some activity around, so I ended up climbing down. And what a good call - as I slid towards the legal side of the fence, a cop and a security guard peered through the bushes at me. After I stammered around for a few minutes, the cop, who hadn't seen me behind the fence, sent me on my way. The security guard actually followed me around and asked for photography tips though.

After that encounter, I headed to my squat, which happened to be an abandoned school that Punchy had told me about. I'd squatted alone a few times, but I'm older and more paranoid now. I was nervous. I'd been by the school earlier in the evening though, so I knew exactly how to get in, and I knew that it was unoccupied and not very well-traveled. I ended up sleeping quite well, although I'm pretty sure I won't have to repeat the experience any time soon.

Met up with Punchy the next day and the rest of the weekend was just as memorable. Here's one of the the other highlights of the weekend.

And that's it. Thanks for looking!

Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in.

I know... but you know how I procrastinate. I really wasn't waiting for the scaffolding to come down before I posted these, but the other day a friend posted pics of his kid here and they inspired me.

Haha, thanks. And what else is one to do with spires? That was probably the safest thing I did that night
