My first trip here and definitely need to go back with film instead of digital.

Nice shots. I was really surprised by how much was still left abandoned here, despite word coming out that classes are starting this year in some of the renovated stuff. As far as I saw they only started on two or three since they got the stop work order. And some of the wards they fixed are already peeling again. Regardless, I think it's awesome that they are reusing the campus. It is pretty nice, more so than the other similar institutions the state built at the time. Definitely one of the coolest looking power plants too, though I highly doubt they can do any thing with that.

Thanks!
From what I understand/saw they did a fair amount of facade work to make it 'look pretty' externally, but only one building looked actually abated. I love that they're going to reuse the buildings, but it's obvious many won't make the transition (if it ever fully happens.)

They did a bunch of work without following the standard protocol for disposing of the lead and asbestos. I believe I read that they were trying to get investors interested by trying to make them think the campus wasn't so damaged. So that's why some buildings look brand new and others are in total shambles. They are currently working on admin, the theater, and one of the buildings by where the prison used to stand. The chapel and one small garage type building are complete from what I understand. The theater is just getting wrapped up.

I saw the theater - new floor boards and paint. Looks basically new - felt odd even walking in the space.

Oh good, they seemed to have renovated the theatre for a second time

Wasn't even in that much disrepair compared to other buildings. Realistically it's a very surface level job with the new renovations.

Ha, they were polishing the floor when we went. We missed the workers by a half hour or so. We watched them pull onto the property as we were about to leave. It definitely made us move pretty quick.

Ha! I was almost expecting it. Still smelled of fresh paint and the roller trays only looked a day used.

This is one of those places that always seems to have something going on or police presence that makes me not even want to bother. I have a feeling I'll never go.

If you can go with someone who knows the place well enough I'd recommend it.
