"The showboat Goldenrod was designated U.S. National Historic Landmark on 24 December 1967. She was placed on the 'Threatened Historical Landmarks' list in 2001. One of two remaining examples of the modern era of showboats that ended in the 1920s, Goldenrod is the largest and most elaborately decorated of the showboats. She provided entertainment in the form of minstrel shows, vaudeville, and serious drama. The boat is designed in the manner of a 19th-century showboat rather than a late 20th century one, in other words, not like a paddlewheeler steamboat."~ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goldenrod_(showboat) After she got displaced and washed ashore in the floods last year, her fate was sealed as the damage to her hull was too severe. On April 1st she will be turned over to the county to "deal with" dismantling and final demo. This was my 3rd trip and I will also be attending the final celebration on the 31st of this month.
there is no smoking on the boat, but I have smelled a cigar. The captain was a cigar smoker and visitors often leave one for him.
The original stage was curved. Seen here after the facade of the new stage was removed.

This place is one of those that make me feel old; When I get to explore a place I once visited during its heyday. I saw a play of A Christmas Carol here once as a kid and then took a tour of it in this condition. I've abused the hell out of my body in the years since, while this boat was just sitting here. And look how bad the boat got in the meantime! I must be a wreck..
