That story of the homeless man freezing to death is enough to make me feel sad for a week.

Oh, duh. Had to remove the link to the article to avoid giving away the location. PM me if you want to read the sad tale.

Couldn't help myself. I paid the Needle a visit.

I've been watching the location really closely and I've seen a lot of activity lately. People seem to come and go a bunch, and several of them look like pretty unsavory characters. That said, when I went I encountered no one but the familiar guardian.

I'm not sure how you guys got up the wall on the roof to dangle your legs over. If you just scaled it and sat on the narrow edge... nope. nope. nope.

I hope you enjoy!

I was in the area and heard a police megaphone. Sounds like they were shooing people out and sealing up the POE.

Best way on the wall is to pull yourself up on the big metal i beams on the wall then just scoot over to the edge from that. Be careful doing it in higher winds though.

Hey people, I dug this thread up to update you all on this spot. It is in a veryyyy different condition than my last experience around a year ago. Both entrances are pretty complicated, and upon choosing one, we were greeted by a man who gave us a run down. Simply put, he let us in to take pictures as long as we stayed off of certain floors. (8,9 & 10 if I recall correctly?). As soon as we hit floor 8, we saw that someone had installed a locked gate that even had a motion sensor beside it. At the stairs on floor 9 we were greeted by a man who saw us, whistled loudly & received a whistle back from someone on the other side of the 9th floor. He asked how many of us there were & then yelled the number so everyone else on his floor was aware. He let us continue on, but told us to be cautious about the "illegal activities" occurring here. I personally believe that ESPECIALLY when the building across the street goes down, this is going to be a very active spot. Proceed with caution.

Visited this building for a brief visit after a longer exploration of the other nearby building. Didn't take long to find a way in, but it was a process (if you know, you know). I noticed the the building was fairly locked up, besides a few spots that had clearly been opened up by some of the inhabitants. Due to the lack of substance on floors 1-7 (I'll get to 8-10 in a bit), we went straight to the roof. Lots of cool sights along with some graffiti if you're into that. On our way down, we were approached by a medium size bald guy, holding a plastic bag in one hand and a gun in the other. He was surprisingly clear and helpful, showing us an easier way out than the way we got in. He said they basically sold guns and drugs out of this building hence his gun and need to defend himself. He simply told us to yell "hey stone" if we planned on visiting the building again. I don't plan on it...Sorry about the lack of photos, i've been using my iphone and still can't figure out how to rotate my images when I post them :p. As said earlier by another explorer, the security guard did not look up for a chase...either way, be careful.

GOD, yes, Stone. I was trying to remember what the whistling dude said his name was. I can't believe he was so specific about what's going on in that building with you, he was extremely vague with us. Honestly, if I saw someone with a gun, I would have called it a day. I've now lost all desire for this spot. (If you used the entrance I think you did, I'm sorry, hahah. I'm not that acrobatic)

Hope no one was planning to take a group here. This is all news to me and I'm sure it would be news to all of us who have been here for a while. Maybe a PSA thread should be made about this and the other. Guns and drugs are not safe for UER members. Especially the younger kids that keep going here to get flix.

I second that. Both buildings are not worth the safety risks they give. If anyone is looking through this thread for information, it's just simply not worth it to go. Take my advice.

Was planning on going here, but after hearing the state of the situation I will definitely be passing on this one. Just want to similarly reiterate other the member's points that some trips aren't worth the risk.

I got lucky when I visited this place.....the front literally had a giant hole in it and there was no one inside, except a big teddy bear, when I visited. Glad I got to visit it when I had the chance.....now I've seen it, won't be going there again haha

Yeah definitely not abandoned anymore. more like upscale encampments. I hope both places are torn down for the sake of the people living in the city and explorers. Also, I hope the few nice people we came across receive some sort of help relocating after the imminent destruction of the free motels.

On another note. What is the best way to keep explorers from going there and infiltrating? Share the location, continuously blasting warnings, or some other more effective method?

Eager to hear thoughts on a solution

Just got back from an explore here and across the street. Didn't even realize people's opinions of this place had gone so sour but it's understandable and I'd have to agree for safety reasons. But I went so here's some pics and updates. First we didn't have to knock because the entrance was unlocked. Less interaction with the local population is better IMO. On our way up the stairs we were stopped by a bald man in his 40's. He almost kicked us out but once we convinced him we weren't taggers he let us by. We stayed clear of most of the floors because they are very similar and I got to experience them last trip anyways. The roof is always cool so that was my main focus. On our way down we got a little sketched out because some very very very loud wailing was coming from one of the floors. The whole building was echoing. At this time a squad of police cars were with their lights on were driving toward us about a block away(learned later this was just a coincidence and they were heading to another crime). The combo of police and this screaming fine lady pushed me into survival mode and we bee-lined it out of the building. Of course nothing ever happened but it was still quite an experience. Anyway here's some bad quality pics.1.
