Mars Bunker Redux

The last time I was at this site it had been sealed up. I checked it out again recently and luckily someone had removed the bars that had sealed the doors.

This place consists of about 8 rooms and has faced more vandalism since previous photos were posted.

I'm surprised it's not tagged to shit yet. Damn shame that some asshole smashed up the bathroom though.

Ah, I've been meaning to go here but got caught up in another bunker last time I tried. I'm also surprised it's not totally tagged yet. I'll have to make way. Thanks for sharing.

Tfw I go hiking in an area with a lot of locked up doors that look just like that but theres too much foot traffic to peek inside. Not sure if the doors are to bunkers or mines cause the area is close to old mercury mines

My son and I were here in October of 2012 and the bathroom was destroyed at that time. Someone had posted a video on YouTube in early 2012 and the bathroom was intact in that video. I suspect that those that destroyed the bathroom found the location by the clues in the video, which is how we found it, that and some studying of old maps of the area and one we had boots on the ground, some good old fashioned "trail reading". I know most everyone is really careful with locations and information, but I fully suspect that this one YouTube video did more damage to this place in under a year than had previously been done since this place was initially abandoned and rediscovered.

Missed you by 5 days, we were there on the 10th. I keep meaning to go back, but real life keeps getting in the way...

Was this complex used as one of the casemates?

I keep saying the same thing about a few places. Can't take the risks anymore.

No. It was the tactical switch board room for Fort Barry.

Such a shame about the restroom. I took my dad this past summer; we used the old maps to locate the bunker. It actually took us a few hours of searching through the vegetation to find it. But we quite enjoyed the process. The underground air quality isn't great, however, thanks to the asbestos and mold. Especially the mold.

When I went back in September and the inside looked basically the same. When i tried to return in January the door was welded shut and someone had cleared a decent amount of the shrubs that had once covered the door. i really liked the hidden feeling of the place so its sad that its more exposed now.

I think it is, although I have gone twice at night when it was pitch black so I was unable to find the way in.
