Since they are demoing everything.. why not go out with a bang? Thinking of one of the many abandoned sites. Probably several cons to this idea, but none that are large enough to have me consider not to do it. PM if you are interested, or share your concerns ;)

Sad to hear this. Treasure Island was one of my bucket list urbex spots. Hope someone can grab some last photos before it all goes away.

Ordinarily, I would say it's an ethics violation. But, they're demoing it anyway. Plus, I think the Urbex community has it's own sense of ownership of the place as well. I say, break out the glow sticks and the DJ consoles : ) Or, make it into a huge illegal music festival and wait for the cops to shut it down. Something along the line of Burning Man, but with asbestos and exposed rebar.

I've attended several parties on TI in various locations, and minus a cop confusedly walking in on a fire dance / DJ inside a warehouse once, everything's been smooth. And even then, he seemed so shocked he didn't really know what to do. I say go nuts.

If I'm reading the Treasure Island Development Authority's site correctly, seems like buildings 1231 and 1233 are being demolished this week. Demolition of one building takes 1 to 2 days apparently. Not sure about the rest though...

I just went to treasure island this morning at around 5am with a friend of mine after hearing about the rumors of demolition. All the trees surrounding the halls have been cut down.. AND the front door was busted open lol meaning the boards covering the front doors have been forced open. Check out the halls before they get torn down forever! I didnt have my camera on me so i didn't take any flicks :/

Thanks for the info. I've only been in 1 of the 2 buildings, maybe I can get a last peak at the other before it comes down. Such a shame...I love those buildings! I went when it was raining a few weeks ago and ran into some fellow UrbExers; the place was all flooded and apocalyptic. I loved it. Anyway, there are a few basic things to consider when throwing parties in abandoned / illegal spaces: 1. The police usually cannot enter, only the fire department. This means that emergency evac routes should be planned ahead and everyone needs to know what they are. Also, everyone should leave at once in the case of a bust - which is right when the fire dept. is about to come in. Going out early if you're about to be busted is a good way to get arrested / ticketed. Play it safe and go as a group. 2. Don't park anywhere near the site. Choose different locations and have people meet at a designated spot. Then, have another designated member walk them to the site. 3. Have several coordinators know what to do in case of emergencies and direct people as needed. At the same time, in the case of a bust / attention needed all the coordinators should make a weird noise than means everyone should shut up / calm down / etc. Something as simple as a hum. 200 people humming in unison is an incredibly calming feeling. 4. If money is being spent on props and the like and there is a bum rush to leave, have those coordinators grab as much of the props as possible when leaving. Of course, this is dealing with 100+ people. Small gatherings probably don't need so much attention to detail...but I am a cautious character.

That would be fun either way. Shame I didnt get around to checking out the barracks last time I was in town. Have fun with whatever you all end up doing

Ave E & 11th St was the box with a full 1st alarm and the fireboat. that address puts it as the child development center or the abandoned 2 story apt complex

My guys and I just got back from the halls. The trees are completely wiped out, stumps everywhere (felt naked in the open) Looks more broken windows can be see from the outside. Big puddle in the first room, so watch your step! Other than that, I'm saddened that this place is going away forever.

Anyone have a date? Want to go check these out sometime soon.

Sounds like a potentially bad idea. I'm in.

Did they actually Demo any of the buildings? Specifically Gosson and Sage hall? I always felt like they were just going to sit and let them rot forever because their is so much asbestos in those dumps and demolishing them would kick it into the air. I guess it really wouldn't matter considering the whole North-Eastern corner of the island is saturated with radioactive material in the dirt.

Did this end up happening? I'm assuming it hasn't but I don't think everything is gone yet and this sounds killer
