After-lunch Explorations

It's not much, but still abandoned and worth a post. A couple weeks ago I did some rural exploration after I saw this place come up on some city council minutes, stating it was to be torn down within a few days. On a whim I grabbed my gear and went out to see if it was still standing, and sure enough it was. There wasn't much there to the building to begin with, very simple and mostly empty. However, they did leave the front door unlocked which was nice of them. As promised the site was razed and leveled within the week, and I started researching the site.

Turns out it was the workshop of a local tannery that once provided employment to many in the local town (the tannery itself was torn down around 1999). Though it was extremely difficult to find anything about it initially in any history of the city, except for a single sentence that named a tannery in the area. But from just that I ended up locating one of the family members who helped first construct the building back in 1950. After a bit of questioning the history of the site, he sent me a nearly 4 page writeup on how his family owned and operated the business, and was even able to provide some catalog pages about what they once sold. So in all a quick but fruitful explore that yielded some unknown historic facts on a place now gone.
