Places you explore.

Do you check the place before you go or you are like "Driving around... ohhh look!! empty building let's go in!"? Call me Exaggerated but since I start exploring (last month) I'm been in 2 places and before I decide to break in I take my time and get all the information i can like videos, pictures, comments, etc. When finally I decide to break in I'm extremely cautious checking the floor, listen for noises for a couple minutes, if I feel "safe" I take my camera out and I start my exploration.

Do you check the place before you break in?

One more think...
I want your option.
One of the thinks I don't want to deal is with the police, so I went to this place and decide to leave the gopro hiding in one of the windows of the second floor pointing to the front door and parking lot using my phone as a monitor to see if the police show up and have time to hide or get the hell out of there. No police shows up nothing happen that day but I don't think is a bad idea, the only problem is the WiFi range of the gopro, for small places is great.

You should spend more time looking for an existing entrance and less time looking for photos online if you really do have to break into everything you visit. Most of the time someone already did that for you. Occasionally you gotta do what you gotta do. But rarely is something ever worth the potential charges. What kind of spots are we talking about here?

And also, it depends on the place. My favorite places are the ones I just happen to stumble upon while driving.

Generally, if I notice a place, I'm on my way somewhere and don't have time to explore it, so I put it's address in my phone, then do a bit of research and explore it later.

As for "breaking in" as has already been said, this is a bad idea. If caught, instead of a trespassing ticket, you can get a felony, and it ruins the place for everyone else. If you do want to get in, and can't find a way, consider climbing up to an entrance on the roof, or just wait, eventually someone else will make a POE, or someone will leave a door/window open.

For police, just make sure no one sees you going in, and you don't trip alarms, and you should be fine. Even if you get caught, as long as they realize you're just taking pictures, you should be fine. While using a gopro to monitor the front door is not a bad idea, it would probably not go over well if you get caught, and they find that you had surveillance set up on the entrance. Personally, I'd skip watching the entrance, and just make sure I'm careful about being seen.

Totally agree with this.

Plus, why leave your GoPro behind? That shit is expensive.

I find the best method is just to keep your wits about you and if someone stops you, be polite and leave. IME usually cops won't give you trouble if you apologize and say you just wanted to take photos.

Im sorry, when i said "breaking in" I was trying to said when Im go in to the place NOT breaking something to get in. I apologise my english is not the best. I will never break something to get in.

I dont need to look for an entrance, the entrances are everywhere. WELL, so far.

Yeah... I dont leave stuff behind unless I dont care if it goes missing.

If the police come stay hidden inside. They wont stay all day waiting for you. If they see you its best to just approach them. Like Cstar said, just be apologetic and let them you are just taking photos.

Don't worry about it It's pretty common to confuse breaking in with just entering.

Waiting it out inside will work sometimes, but they may do a search before they leave, and in some cases, if they don't find you and have reason to believe you're still inside, they may call in a canine unit.

I understand but the police from this city is very rude especially when you are not from this country (I dont wanna said every cops is like that but...) I lived in this city before I was walking my dog (a husky) my dog was ONLY walking in the grass of my neighbor he get out screaming IM GOING TO KILL THAT FUCKING DOG AND YOU !!!! this person told me that like 10 times (just because my dog was walking on his grass) this person start walking towards me, my dog stop him (my dog was with his leash) I never saw my dog growling like that (he was protecting me I LOVE THIS DOG) Finally I call the police, the police show up, they take each statement, at the end the freaking cop was laughing, shaking hands like OLD buddies with this person. I thought They were friends but no because the cop was leaving and ask him... Whats your name again? okey james have a nice day.
Me and my girlfriend were like ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME !! So thats why i don't wanna deal with cops.

Yeah I know it's been said but try not to use the phrasing "breaking in" because if you ever get in a heap of shit this isn't a private forum. They can easily bring this thread out and use it for intent. Now not likely for simple old warehouses but sometimes we explore places we don't know all the history behind. Easy to wander into federal property.

Use of the phrase "breaking in" is a major pet peeve of mine when it comes to novices. I get that they want to seem all badass, but it's inaccurate.

You sound like a patient person UrbanFer, and that's quite useful. Checking out the perimeter and the surroundings carefully is a good idea, and having an attitude of, "It might not be today," can help you pause for thought when required. If you keep a regular eye on a place of interest over time, an entry point will have been made by somebody else. The same applies to security levels - they change over time.

I happen to be a fan of a little research. Driving by is important, especially if there isn't a visible point of entry. There have been some places that I've walked around several times over a two or three week period. Also, I've learned that patience is important, especially if you want someone else to make an entry point for you.

Typically I walk straight to the building like I know what I'm doing after driving around and saying ooh look a building, this is why I always keep my backpack with me. Typically I will find a place to park then look up Google maps and pictures and stuff.

I generally like to take my time, do research, and think things out for a bit. I like to try to learn the history of a location, even if I never plan to post it publicly for fear of giving away too much. There have been a few times, however, where I didn't have the luxury of checking things out in advance and just had to go for it. Luckily, they have all been positive experiences so far.

I'm pretty patient about watching a site over time in the hopes that it gets opened up by someone (or that an easier route appears). It's always a drag, however, when a place is demolished before you ever get a decent opportunity. Regrets, regrets... (Damn you, old MOHAI location!)

I always research a place (sometimes to a fault) before going in. I try to find out as much as I can about a place before visiting.

I google map stuff to look for best methods of approaching, parking, proximity to other things, sight-lines...all kinds of stuff. I'm very careful where I go, and I've not been into a lot of spots as a result (at least six or seven places were demolished before I could feel satisfied about going there). I currently haven't taken any pics of anything either. I'm usually just in and out to see what's going on, with the intent of coming back for a more detailed explore later. I've got a couple on my list right now that I'm *dying* to get out to. I just have to find the time to get to them.

I like to do a quick Google on it to make sure there aren't any important things like a news article on gang activity in the area or something. Otherwise I like to see if anyone else has posted something on the location and pull up Google Maps on it. I make sure to find as many POEs as I can before I get there incase one isn't viable. Finally, I will visit most places once before hand, assuming that is reasonable, and walk the exterior and occasionally test a door. Occasionally I'll bring a clipboard and hard hat to look semi-official.

One time this helped was when I was preparing to go draining in a new location and an old lady was watching me from her house and ended up calling the cops who did a quick drive by. I planned to go a bit earlier when the actual trip was made so she would be likely to be asleep and when it was over I gave her a fake survey on her satisfaction with the city's drain and water management system. That was a good laugh, its the little things that make it all worth it.

I don't B&E. Abandoned buildings are seldom well secured... for long.

KISS, you're wifi signature will betray you...
