Its not listed in the database and a friend and I are interested in exploring it. Anyone around here have any tips/suggestions for it? Apparently there is a police building nearby so that will only ad to the difficulty. Anyways, hope someone can give me some info on it!

I see several parking lots jutting up against the property. Just drive over there, park in the back where you're not in the way, and give it a look over yourself. There's generally no better way than that.

Go there around mid morning and hang around in the parking lot to see what it's like. You can predawn it if looks tough to get in unnoticed. Cops may or may not have much interest in it. If it's got power things could get sketchy; generally buildings with electrical service aren't abandoned; someone's paying the tab and it may have active alarms as well.
Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in. |

yeah we were gonna scope it out first and see if there was any way inside. Ive only driven past it, and not too recently. Still surprised there are seemingly no people who have posted anything about it here. Quite the enticing building though!!

Year's back I was in the main office building at the Worthington aka National Rolling Mills complex which was being demoed without an invite. As I was walking into the former president's office I noticed the damn passive IR alarms were still active. Surprise. I looked around a bit more but made a discrete exit via the train tracks soon after. Never saw anyone. Who knows maybe the were running on battery backup. Only one way to find out...

From what I understand they are usually hooked up to the buildings power. They don't cost anything to keep on, it's the service you pay for. Sort of like a phone. So many times you can set one off and nobody is going to respond because they haven't paid their bill.

Since the complex was under active demo it shocked me to see anything lite. Never assume... they had an active security patrol there recently as well. Good timing is everything. Today what had been an active cold rolling mill for nearly half a century is a lame old folks home.

I think you are talking about the Uniroyal tire factory. I have been several times over the years and never had an issue. Though you have to be extremely careful because there is a fence detection system around the entire perimeter now. It senses vibrations in the fence and alerts the guard. 1.

I was checking this place out and it looks like they started demolition in 2010 according to this article. http://www.massliv..._at_former_un.html Can anyone verify this? It's not that far of a drive from RI so if there is anything there I'd like to check it out. From the google maps image that was taken in Nov. 2015 looks like they've only started demo-ing one of the buildings.

Some of the buildings are gone. Some are still there.

Uniroyal is currently under demo, with soil abatement/capping in progress. I haven't been by there in a while though.
If you have done things right people won't be sure if you have done anything at all. |

I'd been there about a year before those vibration sensors, and made it through the entire complex, interesting and fairly empty. There was a good approach along the river side of the berm along the Chicopee River, but there's still that fence to hop..
everyone's gotta believe in something... I believe I'll have another drink! |

Don't worry about hopping the fence - cut it in an inconspicuous place and leave. Come back in a few days and see if it's been repaired. If not go on in and bring us back some good pics. Even with vibration sensors on the fence, it doesn't take long to cut enough links, fold it back and leave. I would make sure that you cut enough that you can get in without touching it. If you're really paranoid, cut it in a couple of places so you have more than one entrance / exit. This isn't something I would normally recommend but if they have this much security, there's gotta be SOMETHING cool in there they don't want you to see! Also, if going over or through the fence won't work there's always under. Bring a shovel and just dig yourself a nice hole and slide under the thing. Fences for security are a joke. I'm fat, lazy, old and a smoker. I've NEVER let a fence keep me from a site. There's ALWAYS a way in.

I'm very interested to see what's in there - I only live 1.5 hours away and would love to make a trip out to western MA.

Cutting a fence can be the difference between a misdemeanor and a felony. Certainly no joke. I wouldn't condone committing a felony in a public thread. Hopping a fence is ALWAYS a better way to go.
