So went out on basically my first scouting mission in downtown toronto to scope out a spot and got some cool photos on the way to finding a good POE to a rooftop. Found an abodoned semi truck so went in the back didnt stay long seeing as there was a mattress there and looked like may have been someones bed.

Saw this truck last week. Was there still a knife on the table?

It's not where it goes, it's where it can lead you to.

The Wellington Incinerator and an old Toronto abattoir are just West of this site. Just follow Niagara Street and you'll run into them on the South side. Be sure to fuel-up at Thor first, though ; )

I recommend going on the weekends. It has active security guards but.... they seem to sod off on saturdays at least, I and a group of six or so went through the ENTIRE building taking photographs, for many hours, including the roof.

But stay out of the incinerator, because as we were told by a friendly pickup-driving man, he couldn't give us access if he wanted to because public works is currently gutting it, and due to the two dead homeless they found there, it now has cameras, alarms, and he's said you would be arrested if you even went in WITH his permission.

Every building and site has a story, and they are often of mistakes. Learn from them before they are gone forever.

That sounds like a bunch of horse shit.

edit: what the guy said, that is. Works has already gutted it, and are now doing 3-D mock-ups. It's being mothballed.

When we were there last month, there didn't seem to be any cameras or alarms. And thankfully, no dead bodies.

I went not long after the UER meet, and they had put up barbed-wire fence across the bridge, as well as there being a camera above the garage door (although I think it may have been there before). There's still a really easy way in, but we got stared down by a nearby worker in a hut who looked pretty ready to yell at us, and while leaving were told by some people making a documentary with Stan (who had only come back to get equipment they'd left while avoiding cops) that whoever is watching over the place is calling the police on everyone, and trying to charge them with criminal trespassing.

...a charge that doesn't exist in this country.

Look, as most of us know, 80% of this is just keeping your head + good timing. Of course, things can escalate (breaking + entering, all that jazz), but I wouldn't listen to a group who were illegally filming and have a vested interest in keeping other independents off of their emotional / subject territory.

Just my gut reaction. But it seems to fit.

Any idea about the film itself? ie. was it about UrbExing or about Stan's life? I hope they didn't lose any of the equipment!

Hadn't realized that. It did look like security was getting upped severely, although there was definitely still a very easy way in, despite their attempts with barbed wire fences.

I only had a very brief exchange with them, but from what I gathered, it was a documentary about Stan's life and his collection. They didn't mention losing anything, so I don't think so.

The abattoir actually had people on-site Saturday, a pest control dude, and a couple of security guys.

And Wellington had this majestic lion on-site.

We met a woman who looks after the cats when we were exploring in November. She was hostile at first because she didn't want people trespassing since it jeopardized the cats (the more trespassers, the less likely owners were to let her tend to the cats) but she was very nice once we chatted for a bit.

The cats were in great health, and they made some great shelters for them out of Rubbermaid bins.

I want to say she was with Liberty Village Cat Rescue.
