The eastern span of the old San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge is going to be detonated on Saturday November 14th. Does anyone know what the best spot is to watch it? I have heard of a boat tour but it is unsurprisingly sold out.

I just realized I misread the news article about it (damn journalists and their click-baiting titles), only one of the underwater piers will implode, not the entire eastern span. It can still be pretty cool to watch.

Do you think we'll see much if it's an underwater pier?
As a friend put it, it won't be "Hollywood blockbuster-style action", but it's not all underwater so it can still be worth the trip.
i plan on recording it with a zoom, but im still not 100% sure where to view it best from

how far away from treasure island is the part that's being imploded?

Never know, you might get lucky... when demo engineers screw up, results can be spectacular.
Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in. |

its on the 7th, not the 14th
If it is that pillar then Yerba Buena might be your best bet. It is set for the 14th

Ever one I've talked to, including Google points to the 7th. Do you by chance have a source?

Weird, I checked with CalTrans and they are saying the 7th as well
CalTrans rarely knows whats going on. Look at the material they used to build the new bridge

My bad, well I just wanted to make sure none of us missed it

They keep saying that they are only blowing up the largest underwater pier, not the bridge. " The target is a piling from the old Bay Bridge that extends 275 feet beneath the surface into the bay mud itself. Maroney got fairly animated on the subject. "We see that we have a cellular structure that goes down hundreds of feet, so let's place that material right there, efficiently, and entomb it below the mud line, where it is not a hazard to anybody," he said." See more here with good maps etc: http://abc7news.co...il-nov-14/1066483/ You might not see much of anything.

I bet it looks something like this: https://www.youtub...atch?v=iEOZR5AV9mQ

We should all use the maintenance service request form on their website and type up a couple of tickets for the new bridge. They'd love that I'm sure.

It's this weekend.

did anyone do any scouting to find the best viewable area? i noticed an "event" on fb, most are saying pier 1 on the island is going to be the best view. also the emeryville marina has been mentioned, but its a long way to see it. now they are saying it might be between 6:45 am and 1-1:30pm
from what ive been reading it sounds like its going to be pretty unspectacular
here's a video i found on it: http://abc7news.co...ay-bridge/1082172/
