Database of Demo's

My personal database of "no longer standing" spots just hit 1000 locations and I'm thinking it might be reaching a point where others could start to find it useful. (I hope there isn't any problem with posting this...I know I'm not supposed to expose location information, but technically these don't exist anymore!)

The area this portion of my database covers is exclusively York Region, so if you're not interested in this region then you probably won't have any interest in this data. Otherwise feel free to download it and add it to your own map!

The map/database doesn't include any pictures or detailed information on the properties, but simply the type of structure (best guess; "barn" applies to basically any large out-building) and when it was demolished, give or take a few years. The locations are pretty darn accurate - mostly within a couple of meters, but the database isn't even remotely close to being complete for the area...some areas I haven't even touched yet (fuck Vaughan, in particular), and some areas such as newly gentrified neighbourhoods are heavily dotted even though they aren't particularly interesting for most explorers.

I find it can be pretty useful for assessing properties on the fly where the Google Maps view doesn't show enough detail or is out of date, and also just generally saving me the heartache of wondering what I missed and by how much. I don't know about the rest of you, but I find it particularly painful passing by a property that obviously used to have something there and not knowing anything about it. This project was my attempt at resolving that issue, but perhaps someone can find their own uses for this information.

And while I realize the UER acts as a Demo DB itself, I'm also kind of curious if anyone else keeps a similar personal database?

I keep a personal explore database. It's not quite the same. What I do is every time I pass a potential abandonment, come across one on google earth, etc, I place a marker on google maps. As I do recon, I add info to them, as well as explorer notes from trips. I also use a color code system based on accessibility and successes. It's all very general and probably not too helpful to others, but on the other hand I could be wrong. Mine contains plenty of still standing locations across new england, as well as encounters I wouldn't share with just anyone, so I won't post it, let alone in a different regional thread. You aren't alone though, I basically have my own personal version of the UE DB, and there is some overlap naturally.

There is actually no rule against exposing specific locations on this site, demo'd or not. It's heavily frowned upon within certain contexts, but there's no site rule against it. There is a rule against discussing points of entry on the site.

Just for the record. Thanks for sharing!
