Abandoned US Naval Air Station - NL

US Naval Air Station was one of several US bases built on NL during WWII. Although the number of US forces dwindled after the war, the US occupied this base until 1994.

This was my first trip to the base in 5 or 6 years. Alot of the buildings have been removed but there's still quite a bit to explore.

There are two 200 series coastal defense batteries (281 and 282) on the south side of the base. This is Battery 281:

One of two locked gates at the entrances of the bunker:

The main reason for my visit was to explore this under ground facility that I haven't been inside before. This is commonly referred to as the "hospital bunker". The main floor of the bunker has a long hallway with several doors leading to a long room on each side of the hallway. At the end of the hallway there is a stair way that seems to go up 2 or 3 stories to a single room with pillbox type opening that looks out over the harbor and the base.

Hallway:

Along the runway there are dozens of ammo storage bunkers.

Get what you're saying, but an open doorway is not exactly a secret entry point.

Love abandoned military stuff. Reminds me of the stuff out on McNabs Island here in Halifax. Thanks for the explore.
