The Nomad http://www.uer.ca/...ow.asp?locid=27998 is actually what brought me back to this site. I met a local up here through a friend who took me on an adventure in their home town 50 miles north of Anchorage. Afterwards I was doing a bit of research this site popped up with a profile for what I had just explored. I had made an account on here way back in 2010 only to then forget it existed as I had moved on to other things. Anyway I'm glad to be back, lets get to the adventure!

So It started with a trip out to a boat that has a bit of local history (see link above). Apparently local kids like to come down here, camp out in the burned down cabin near by, and mess around at an abandoned mine accessible covertly by coastal frozen pathway in the winter and by a bit of walking and sneaking from the main road in the summer. At the time I was stuck with just my iphone, but I'll be returning this winter with a proper camera.

Then we moved on to the partially burned down cabin. The iPhone started to struggle with the lack of light.

Birchwood/Eagle River across the Knik Arm. My home is over there somewhere. Now that I think About it I probably have a picture from the top of one of those mountains looking this way.

After hanging out there for some dinner we decided to take the rear frozen pathway to get into the mine unseen. Thank god I had ice cleats in my car for the both of us because it was a long slippery walk. It started to get pitch black out and got pretty creepy, but hey that's part of the excitement. Sadly a lot of picture didn't turn out. This will be remedied on my second trip this year.

First shack we came across looked to be some kind of makeshift locker room.

It looked like they just left never came back

My friend being a creeper inside the mine

And sadly that's where my phone then died. This was really just supposed to be a walk with the pup and it turned into a fun little trip. Definitely looking forward to heading back in with the right gear.

I miss AK and had always meant to check out the mines in the area when I was working in Trapper Creek. Always beautiful. Cool location.

Great to see another Alaskan on the site. It's been a couple years since I visited the Nomad. Need to go back soon. That mine looks really interesting. Hit me up if you want to go exploring.
