Paid attention to the Internets a while back. Found out that a high school on Gary's south side closed in 2014. Hit that up over labor day, was very do-able and not fucked over by idiots. Ran into non-urbex or scrapper people both times I went over the weekend, but it was worth it. Not completely bombed out, back when Gary was good it was once of the upper class (from my research) schools in the area. I'd upload DSLR quality photos but I use a cell phone and don't care.

Oh, and beware (kinda) of the end of the security overlooks at the Post Office... have heard multiple reports of a decomposing dog in there.

I came upon the poor pooch when it was fresh. It's pretty sad that someone ditched (or killed) it up there.

There is indeed a pooch in the hidden walkways. But hes so far gone, there is no odor to worry about. Just try not to step on him out of respect if anything.

From Chicago but looking to explore Indiana, particularly Gary, this weekend. Any good spots or warnings? Thanks

Im from Chicago as well - Ive been to Gary a few times.
-do not go at night or if theres bad weather
^made that mistake, went on a sunday around 2PM when it was raining...i felt safer walking around the streets of chicago... haha
-but for real - dont get stabbed
-i would recommend staying out of abandoned houses
-the downtown area seems to be your best chance on exploring places

good luck! google maps is your best friend as well.

-Ali
