Abandoned mine on Texada Island

Hello everybody, this is my first post on the forum.

This site is located on Texada island BC, I won't be disclosing the location any more specific than that. The site is untouched by graffiti, but other people have visited.

This was a granite mine. There is a large Quarry behind this facility. Rock was dumped in at the top, and processed down.

Here is a shot from a small hill overlooking the main building.

The front of the building. The vehicle I used to located the site is also visible. The part with green trimming was the electrical room.

The right side of the building.

The back of the building. There used to be a catwalk/Conveyor belt that went to the secondary tower. You can see some wires and the steel beams to support it remain.

Time to see the inside!

At the top, looking down inside.

About halfway down, I had to walk that staircase. It's rapidly rusting and won't be safe for much longer. I didn't have much faith in it. This is my favorite shot from the entire day.

Crushing machine (?) on second floor.

Looking up from the bottom

The bottom. The staircase going down on the left goes to a machine room underneath. It is completely flooded and inaccessible.

Located near the bottom of the main building

The secondary building on the right, and the main building on the left. I apologize for the poor quality, this is a screengrab from a video I filmed. I did not get proper shots of this building.

Inside the secondary building

The electrical room. This was at the top of the main building. The smaller darker grey box on the left near the back of the room was buzzing loudly. Very high voltage, it likely powers other facilities on the site which are still active.

Bonus pictures of the quarry. Super fun to ride my motorcycle around in. Hope you enjoyed!

Silly Huebert, that is a lime stone quarry, not a granite quarry.

Shit Crisspy, you got me. You know the history of this place better than me, that's for sure.

Also, Masakari, the island can be traveled to via BC ferries, but you have to get to Powell River first.

Hey Masakari, I'm in Powell River (I'm a lifer here), and spent huge amounts of time on Texada Island over the years. It was actually me who filled in Heubert on the ins and outs of visiting this old quarry, which I have done numerous times through the past decades (it shut down in the 1980's, when I was a teen with a motorbike and a crazy passion for exploring industrial sites and especially mines).

The first tip is to time it for a weekend, preferably a long weekend, because the active quarry next door is a smaller business, and quite reliably takes weekends off, especially on holidays.

I will gladly fill you in on details, and lots of travel tips for Texada, I know the place quite intimately. PM me any time.

Sadly, this thread is public to anyone on the internets. We have a problem in the southern gulf islands, anything with boat access gets scrapped.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too!
