Concealed carry permit

So I am looking into getting my concealed carry permit. Not necessarily for exploring but for general carrying purposes. If I were to carry on location and get caught would carrying legally make things worse? Or would there be any downside to carrying? Any and all insights are much appreciated. I am still fairly new to urban exploring.

Committing a misdemeanor(trespassing) with a firearm will turn it into a felony(carrying a firearm for unlawful purpose). If you're out in the back roads of like North Dakota, it wouldn't be a problem, but I wouldn't go carrying in say Pittsburgh or something along those lines. I carried in Detroit, well cause it's Detroit. Besides that, I've always left my gun at home. If you're trespassing with a gun and you get caught, it'll make things 100x times worse, trust me. It will also make the police officer even angrier when he finds out you are armed.

Rinzler is correct, bad idea. If youre afraid to explore without a sidearm I suggest another hobby.

p.s. you'll also loose your CHL

Having a CCW, I've gone through the same dilemma. I go nowhere without my pistol. But when exploring, you are technically breaking the law. If you're caught, having a firearm will only make things worse.

Furthermore, what good is your firearm if you need it while exploring? If you need to discharge your weapon while trespassing, things are going to get sticky REALLY fast. I have a special holster that fits in my truck's lockable center console. When I get out to explore, I remove my sidearm and stow it in my truck.

I agree, I have a CCL and carry most of the time but not when exploring. I have a can of mace that I carry with me and can get you out of some confrontations with animals or other trespassers that may want to do you harm. Spray and run.

Honest, I was just looking. www.urbexmag.com

And never be able to even legally own a firearm again.

I have been researching this issue lately as well.

It seems some states specifically mention having a firearm while some don't.

Example of Ohio
http://codes.ohio.gov/orc/2911.21

vs

Florida
http://www.leg.sta...tions/0810.09.html

Is there a blanket federal law that mentions this?

I know that if you were to get caught it would escalate the situation and you wouldn't get a warning, but my main concern would be a felony over a misdemeanor and not being able to legally own a gun again.

And what about areas you could accidently be trespassing, such as park instead of a factory?

I don't know of any federal laws specific enough to trump state law.

But even with the misdemeanor/felony dilemma aside, the bigger concern (at least to me) is not whether I'm caught carrying, but rather if I'm forced to use my weapon...while trespassing. The thought of that legal mess makes my stomach churn.

I had my permit but let it expire since AZ doesn't require one anymore. Class was worth it. I mostly conceal carried when I ran a business in a commercial space and while hiking to keep some people from acting uncomfortable. I have carried on explores before when solo. Mostly on recon. I echo the problems added when carrying on private property. Not a great idea.

I would also highly advise against it, like the above have. Guns turn situations with the Police ugly really quick, especially with all the controversy going on currently.

All this makes sense. I have never explored anywhere I felt like I needed a weapon or have taken one with me. Just figured I would ask what everyone thinks. This pretty much conforms what I was thinking. Thanks so much everyone.
