copper mine

So J-vic and I decided to drive out to check out a pretty big mine. After driving for a little over a hour we turned onto a logging road just passed sooke, so we parked and hiked a fair distance down the side of a cliff we arrived at the entrance.
1.

once we got inside we poked around the main level a bit then went down a fairly long ladder.
2.

3.

4.

A few open pits usually were marked by some pink tape

10.

I love the natural patina on these copper wires

13.

Old twisted up elevator.
14.

15.

This mine had a lot of natural caves through out it just massive!
16.

after some more exploring when found another ladder to go down so we got geared up and went down almost twice as far as the first ladder.

The only people more nuts than drainers and rooftoppers are cavers. NO WAY would I EVER consider entering an old abandoned mine. With that being said, I'm glad you have the balls to do it because you got some great shots! #1, #9, & #20 are my favs. That "Dont Let Him Out" was funny.

It should be just over an hour to there...

I know where it is, there is a very good web site on that location (PM me if you want details, I don't want to give away the location by xposting it here). I haven't visited, but it is right in my neck of the woods. I hope you got pizza or coffee during your trip

Nice look at a pretty good mine with some good looking structure. I always enjoy other peoples mine trips. Thanks for the look.

I have changed my personal exploring ethics code. From now on it will be: "Take only aimed shots, leave only hobo corpses." Copper scrappers, meth heads and homeless beware. The Jonsered cometh among you, bringing fear and dread.

Great set. It's important to note you guys had your safety gear on- them ladders go a long way down into the inky black. Still, kind of crazy.

bad ass, one of my favorite parts of our island are the numerous amounts of abandon mines, and the natural cave systems, I must ask haha are you wearing commercial fall protection, hard to tell with the climbing rope lol

I am 99.9% sure this is the old Sunro mine at the Jordan River, based on the sign saying "River Zone - Ramp to 5400", which matches the naming I see in documents on line. I've been looking intensively at all the Minfile information for hours now, trying to confirm, and would love to chat about going there. Since I have to travel from Powell River, it's a long trip, and I want to make sure it's the right decision. I'm trying to decide between this site and the Carolin mine up near Hope, which is a really amazing mine, with perfect access and about 10.5km of tunnels. It's a hard decision for a few reasons. Any feedback about how much was accessible would be greatly appreciated.

It looks like there used to be a portal opening down near sea level, with a 2.5km access tunnel leading to the mine area, but there was a collapse they could not fix. In 1978 they blocked it, so everything below river level up at the mine site is now flooded. That is really sad, because there was a whole crushing and concentrating plant built underground in a huge room.

Hey Brandon, we met at the powerhouse doing some unrelated exploring this weekend. Nice post on the mine! I cannot wait to go back to check it out. We definitely need more gear including some fall protection before we go back.

We are going to hit up Bowker in the next few days.

Hey it was good to meet you guys glad you found the forum.
Yea that mine was a hell of a adventure definitely recommend the fall protection! And some good headlamps you don't want to be messing with a flash light going down those ladders!

Have fun in the hall of wonders and stay safe!

This is a pretty well known easy to find mine with a little bit of research, between user posts and Google you can find all the info you need even gps coordinates to the location
