Bad Mojo

My apologies in advance for the photos in this thread. Its extremely humid in East Texas and my camera fogged up as soon as I got out of the car. As you will read below I really didnt want to wait for it to warm up.

I was driving in East Texas this morning and after making my 2nd sales call I decided to take the road less traveled to see if I could find anything interesting to pop off a few photos of. While driving I passed this road:

1.

Upon seeing it I knew that there HAD to be something down there thats old. My SUV didnt really fit but nothing ventured, nothing gained right?

I pull up and I see the front of the house and it looks pretty shabby.

2.

As I get out I call out to see if anyone is home. The entire place is completely overgrown so I was pretty confident it was empty but this IS Texas after all and every dumbass in the state has a gun. So I look through the garage windows and see that its full of old furniture and general junk. Once again I feel like I'm on the right track.

I then begin to look for an entrance. I look to the left:

3.

Then I look to the right:

4.

I decide that left seems to be the path of least resistance so I head on through the dense foliage in search of exploration bliss. As I begin my entrance through jungles that the Viet Cong couldn't even traverse I notice something unusual - a new power meter.

5.

But whats REALLY unusual is that this thing is spinning 90 to nothing! Something was sucking up the juice. I pause and listen and I cant hear anything but the wonderful sounds of nature and my now increased heart rate throbbing in my ears.

I proceed around the side of the house and up to the front door. I called out and got no response so I looked through the door window. To the left were stairs going up, an open door in front of me and junk everywhere. I then knock on the door, wait and listen and hear nothing so I try the doorknob and its locked.

Something didn't seem right - everything in me was telling me to get the hell outta there so I turned around and went to leave. As I got back to the driveway I decide to snap a few shots of the power meter to try some gif animation at home.

I got one shot off and high tailed it outta there. The meter had slowed down to a crawl!

I have no idea if anyone was in this place but I wasnt taking any chances. This house creeped the hell outta me for some reason. This is not a location I will be visiting again.

A running meter means nothing. I've been to dozens of places with power and it was vacant. Good thing you didn't go inside and get trapped!

I see you are racking up the votes for that one!!! At least he HAD an adventure and no doubt learned a valuable lesson on getting locked inside.... Not that ol Peptic needs any assistance on this one, as he's a big boy and i am sure he can defend himself if he wanted to. I Don't have a thing for Mr. Ulcer and suddenly felt the need to defend him as i have never met this man. But, what we need to realize here is that was a NEW meter. I too have explored places with the electricity still running in many old buildings. But a NEW meter on an old crappy place with locked doors down an overgrown road.... looking at this place someone was living way out of the way of prying eyes for a reason. Usually not Good down the back roads of Tx. Nothing against you personally Ringler.

Ringler? Lol. I don't even understand what you're saying. I was simply warning him not to go inside because there might be somebody in there with such a new looking meter and he could possibly run into trouble inside and not be able to get out.

I just thought "Good thing you didn't go inside and get trapped! "was a clever reference to Pep getting trapped in a cell recently.

refrigeration units, grow operations, any number of high amperage draw devices that can be left on will make the meter run but generally as ulcer points out not in truly abandoned residence, somebody be paying that bill or the electric company would've shut them down in a couple months

- weekend hunters (w/firearms)
- auto chop shops (w/firearms)
- meth cooks (you better believe w/firearms)

fair to point out some people set up their bank account or credit card for auto bill pay on their electric bill

The thing I both love and hate about 2xplorations is that he comes it, dumps some heavy, insightful shit then fades back into the background. Of all the people on this site he is the one I want to meet the most. Everything he says cuts right through to the heart of an issue in the most concise way and he pulls the most obscure facts out of nowhere like its a bad pop music tune you cant get out of your head. In short, I think hes brilliant and wish he posted more. I would give my left nut to be a tick on his ass to learn 1% of what this guy knows.

really cool would love to have seen shots of the interior. i could believe power was left on by accident or neglect. but 2ex does bring up the right idea to think about worse case scenarios, especially on a overgrown backroad. i do love when random intuition leads you to a cool new(old) place!

Lol, 2x goes places that even the ticks on his ass jump off before he enters!
